13th November 2008 - ARRIVAL DAY!!
The flight was amazing and Quantas are my new favourite airline!!! As we boarded we chose to walk through 1st class again even though this time we didn't need to. The air stewardess asked 'where do you think you're off to?' and we felt like naughty children as we turned around and walked back past everyone to where the 'normal' people sit!! All we saw at first was a blanket and for a long flight I was a little gutted.....but they then brought around the package of socks, eye mask, headphones, tootbush & toothpaste and a pillow all in a handy little bag!!! So excited and a world apart from the overnight trains and buses we had become used to!!!
I managed to fall asleep before take off and slept until they brought our first meal! One of the best meals I have had so far and I washed it down nicely with a Gin and Tonic (free of course and I know a certain farmer who will be very jealous!!) After the meal and drinks I managed to sleep again until breakfast....when an Madge Bishop lookalike almost knocked me out pulling down her hand luggage!! And no...it wasn't really her!!! Best flight ever though even though I slept through 'Step Brothers'!
On arrival we were picked up from the airport and taken to Moreton Bay Backpackers Hostel which we had pre-booked for 2 nights!! Not the friendliest of places when we got there and a bit shocked as a few of the backpackers there were talking about how they kept getting bitten by bedbugs!!! One girl had awful bites all down her arm from them and there was no way I was having that!!! Luckily, no one from our room (8 people) had been bitten and so we thought we would risk it!
That afternoon we had a walk along the harbour and had 'Fish and Chips' for lunch. Not quite English standard but not too bad!!! We also shopped for food and we were now trying to cut costs with our eating and use the self-catering facilities at the hostel. We spent what was left of the day chilling at the hostel and went for a drink in the bar. Still not getting a good vibe as the majority of people at the hostel seem to have been there a while and have formed a click that they don't want to open to newbees!! We would have to work our charm on them tomorrow!!
14th November 2008 - FINDING OUR FEET IN BRISBANE!!
Sleeping wasn't as bad as I thought and despite the sheets being anything but 'Daz white' they didn't seem to have bedbugs and I didn't get bitten!!! For breakfast we tested out our home brand cornflakes which resembled cardboard. Mmmmm tasty!!! Note to self.....spend more on cereal in future!!!
We then took the free shuttle into town to start our mission of finding a campervan. After checking a few out we got a really good deal and were able to pick it up the following day for 40 days and 40 nights. So so excited!!! From there we had a browse around Brisbane to sort out our phones, get a map for our roadtrip and buy the largest ice cream ever!!! Yes...it was good!!!
At aroudn 4.30ish we headed back to the hostel & chilled out for a while before cooking a feast of beans and cheese on toast. What a life!!! We then tried to get to know the people at the hostel whom we found out thought we were Swedish when they saw us (I must point out that this is the 6th time this has happened so far....shame the only thing I can say in a Swedish accent is 'Sveeden')!!
We went to the bar for a game of pool and then sat around the communal room with a drink and music. The majority of the inner clan had gone ourt so the atmopsphere was a lot nicer. Even so I would be glad to get on the road tomorrow and leave Morton Bay Backpackers and its bedbugs behind!!!
15th November 2008 - LEAVE MORTON-BAY
I was like a Jack that wouldn't go back in it's box when I woke this morning. So excited I was springing around from around 6am until we checked out at 10am and caught the free shuttle bus into town to pick up our van!!! The road trip begins here!!!!
