Litchfield National Park
Florence falls. Boys jumped from the top of the one on the right We are back in Darwin tonight after a pretty tiring couple of days. After our very busy last day at Kakadu we drove out back onto the Stuart highway and up to Batchelor. This is where the Litchfield National park begins. Its the most amazing park for waterfalls and plunge pool billabongs. We first stopped for diesel at Batchelor. After trying to get some shade for the Bago, Rob declared he's going to steer clear of trees from here on! yep we caught the branches with the top of the Bago!
First falls were Florence Falls. Unfortunately I didn't get many photos here because Rob was feeling a bit unwell so had a kip in the Bago while I walked down. So I only took the camera as far as the viewing platform. I snapped a couple and took the camera back before heading down into the bottom of the falls. You have to climb through the rock areas before getting into the main body of water. Its crystal clear the water. There were some very big black fish swimming around me. I tried to ignore them and got through to the very deep area. It was fabulous! Young blokes

Top of the Florence Falls. This is where I swam with lots of black fish! were climbing up the sides of the waterfall and (sometimes) jumping in. They were on the top of the falls and being egged on by the ones in the water. It was funny to watch them retreat and get booed by the observers. It would have been 50 feet up I'd say so must have looked damned scary from the top. I did see two make the plunge though!
135 steps back to the top and we headed off to the Buley rockholes . This is a fabulous place! It was getting pretty hot by now and the water was pretty cool and seriously refreshing. The rockholes are like a natural spa, the water rushing through and down all the different pools. Rob hopped in as well and it was fabulous! Some of the holes are really deep, you cant find the bottom. We stayed for ages. Only got a small amount of photos because its so slippery on the rocks, you didn't want to risk losing the camera or phone. Poor Rob did take a tumble and landed badly and now has a sore back... But lucky in a way because its potentially pretty hairy!

Buley rock pools, Rob's enjoying the spa! was Wangi Falls. This is a massive, massive pool of water, with two waterfalls. Quite a long way to swim over to the falls which I did, and again you couldn't find the bottom. Brilliant!
There are quite a few more falls and swim holes in this park that we didn't get too, but we'd had enough by this time. So if you ever find yourself in Darwin do make sure you get to Litchfield! Even though Kakadu ended up being great I would rate Litchfield better and a mustn't miss!
At the end of a great day, we parked at Batchelor caravan park and met this beautiful old dog who joined in our BBQ dinner. He was so patient, waiting to be fed. Even though he was a beagle he had a face that reminded us of Beau and it was lovely to spend time with him!
This morning we woke up to beautiful birds feeding in the park. Very noisy and gorgeous!. Headed back the Darwin with a detour to collect some missing mail at the Darwin River Post office. We are back at Free Spirit park, have the exact site we had when we

Buley rock pool, I took a leap of faith. There's no bottom to that pool ! left and the same lovely neighbours. And a Mr Whippy icecream van came through this afternoon! Heavan!
Fires must be very close because the park was surrounded in smoke this afternoon. Didn't stop me going for a smokey swim though!
We have some new plans for the coming few days now, which I will report on tomorrow. Nothing like last minute decisions! Stay tuned!1
