Darwin city
Rob's having a healthy breaky! Not a lot to report about today's ventures. We don't have a vehicle so decided to catch a bus into the city for a nice breaky. Its quite hot again today and getting more humid and we want to get the most out of this beautiful city before we head off.
The bus system is very good here. Picked us up right out the front of the park and straight into the city. Its about a 15 min drive I'd say. And for 2 seniors, guess how much?? $2, yep for 2 people. You can travel for 3 hours for a dollar each. Got to use my newly arrived seniors card!! Ha ha! There are SOME good things about getting older...
We thought we'd better have something healthy this morning. See the pics below and you'll note that I had a go at least! The fruit was soooo beautiful, you could taste the sunshine! We checked out the Spokes Wharf area and the created beach there. Like Cairns the water can be dangerous so the city has created a safe beach area. It has a wave pool as well but its under maintenance at the moment. It is a

And so am I!!! well partly healthy anyway..... It was damned good! really beautiful place, and fabulous for families. Come to Darwin one day and see for yourself, and bring your kids, they'll have a ball!
We needed some things so caught anither bus to the Casurina shopping centre. Its a beaut place and I realised, albeit too late, that I could have had a great time shopping here. Never mind next time!
Funny story, we saw a guy on the bus who absolutely could have passed for Barrak Obama! (bit short though). Rob couldn't help himself, he had to ask for a photo! He was from Indonesia and seemed a little embarrassed. He said he had been told that many times. Unfortunately in my rush to snap him I buggared up the photo! Arghhh. Oh well you'll just have to believe us!
Back home and we had an early dinner. Rob cooked up the beautiful salmon I caught at Karumba, in Queensland. It had been in the freezer since we caught it. It was absolutely beautiful! Just cooked with lemon, butter and pepper. Yummo!
We are getting ready to go back into the city tonight for the Good Times show. Brian Cadd, Joe Camilleri, Glenn Shorrock and

Ha ha first time using my seniors card on the $1 bus journey! Kate Cebrano. Should be good.
Now I mentioned yesterday that we have had a change of plans. We are very excited to say that we are going on the Ghan! It was just a last minute decision and thought we had no chance to get on, as its booked out months in advance! But surprisingly we found two Gold tickets from Alice Springs to Adelaide left. Maybe a late cancellation. Very lucky!! Leaving on Thursday! Its been a bucket list trip for years so we are super excited.Of course this means we have to fly to Alice first. So tomorrow we are packing up the Bago for a week, and leaving him at the long term airport parking at Darwin. We will fly to Alice Springs and stay overnight (yes a REAL bed!!). Then the Ghan leaves there about 11.00 am. Not sure what happens, I think its stops at various places on the way, and you get off and have a look around. It takes 24 hours to get to Adelaide so you get to experience the train, the amazing scenery of the outback, Coober Pedy, the Flinders Ranges, the dining car, the sleeper compartments etc, pretty well

Beautiful waterfront area before you arrive in Adelaide. Sure to be the right time for a quiet G&T on board too!
After that we are flying into Melbourne and will head back over Leongatha to stay and spend some time helping to look after one of the grandies while Emma's in Ireland for a wedding. We know we don't need to be there, they would have managed without us, but we are very keen to get a kid fix and see some of our grandies and family for a few days before heading over to the west. We will fly directly back to Darwin on Thursday. We will pick up the Bago at the airport and head straight down to Katherine, where we will turn right and head to the west!
So, thats the next adventure. Very very excited, cannot wait to be on the Ghan! A real bucket list ticked there! And really will love getting the odd cuddle with the grand kids too!!
So not sure about the Blog for the next week. I will be able to post about the Ghan trip once we get to Melbourne and that should be it before we head off to

The Ghan
How exciting for you both. The next week or so sound very hectic so it will be nice to have a little time out back home with the wee ones. Loving your Blog and can't wait to see what the west has to offer. Sunrise have been filming from the Kimberly and it looks absolutely amazing. This morning they were at a place called Lake Argyle just out of Kununurra. The caravan park has been voted Australia's best park and you could definitely see why. If you are in the neighbourhood might be worth a visit. She also said the horizontal falls near Broome were one of the top 5 things she has ever experienced. You can see I'm just itching to get up there. Maybe one day. shaz
