Djokovic we take all our mocking back! We have crossed the border into the Northern Territory and it is about 34 degrees. We can barely walk never mind play any tennis! It is just unbelievably hot! On our way here we stopped at Edith falls and, as it is croc free (well it is sort of croc free - the sign says “swim at your own risk”), we took a dip in the lake with a lovely waterfall backdrop and then set off on a hike up the gorge - we obviously hadn’t learnt any lessons from the day before! Here it was different though, instead of a scenic view as a reward for your hard work, there was a pool between two waterfalls. The water was super refreshing after the walk and the waterfall was ... read more

DAY 231 It was a cool night, again we slept under just one blanket, to start with the humidity was high and we lay there longing for the coolness of the night, the good thing though that we were inside and the mozzies were outside. Throughout the night we hear the usual abundance of wildlife, the different sounds the shuffling of the leaves, the crunching of the leaves, the strange calls from the birds or was that some kind of lizard hissing outside? It seems that we have adjusted to the time difference here, as we were both awake at 7.00, not nearer to 8.00 like it was when we first crossed over the border. Lying in the cool of the morning chatting about the night sounds I asked Andy if he knew the purpose of ... read more

DAY 230 Well readers, today is the day that many people would have been queuing up for, I had to slap Andy in the face, not once but twice, yes twice and both times he fell for it…. Tee hee. What a lovely cool start to the day, we both slept under the blanket, the temperature dropped overnight, just enough for us to stay comfortable under one blanket, not two and most definitely not with the sleeping bag. It was so comfortable, it was 7.00 and a cup of tea was calling, so we both hopped out of bed to enjoy the coolness of the morning, it would not be long before the sun would require us to slink into the shade in order to stay cool. We had plans today, to take the bedding out ... read more

DAY 229 I awoke in the night to the sound of some birdsong, although I have not idea what bird it was or what the call signified and blowed if I can remember what the sound was, so I cannot even describe it or look it up in my little book of Australian birds. All I remember thinking was how amazingly different the Australian wildlife can be. We both awoke at 7.00 feeling shattered, this heat really seems to be taking the energy from us. Andy brought me a cup of tea and I lay in bed drinking it and reading my book for a while, well I am on holiday. Even though we are moving today we are in no rush, we are not travelling far as we are remaining in Kakadu just to a ... read more

DAY 228 We woke after an unbelievably hot night, and though we both slept really well we both feel shattered. Our campsite is quiet this morning, as the Trumans left yesterday and we are back on our own again. Being very social as we are its always nice to have nice people around, but it is equally nice to be on your own as you can just please yourself, without the consideration of anyone else. I made tea and we both sat around the fire pit for an hour talking and drinking our morning brew, the fire had long extinguished from the night before, but it still emitted some warmth, a wild Dingo appeared out of the bush and walked on by looking for a feed from someone, who doesn’t know any better or some campers ... read more

DAY 227 I had the most terrible nights sleep, I awoke at some ungodly hour because it was too hot, it seems that the temperature must have gone up in the night, it had been a bit cloudy yesterday so maybe it was understandable. Last night the mozzies were well and truly on a mission, they feasted well, so the next thing that kept me awake was the constant itch from a few of bites, a few campers seemed to be having some jollities over the way, though it had not been too bad but the sound of someone getting in a car at 2.45 this morning also made me wake up. I heard Ken and Josh leave at 5.30 this morning; they are off fishing this morning in Yellow Water with the aim of catching ... read more

DAY 226 I woke up early and dived out of bed and put the kettle on, it was Sunday and we were going to have an easy day today, great! We don’t get many easy days, you lot just think we are on a years holiday, messing about having a whale of a time. Yes, we are having a whale of a time, but unlike our comfortable life in England, our life here at the moment is constantly about planning, i.e. where we are going to get fuel, provisions, a bed for the night, the blog, feeding ourselves, washing clothes, tidy the truck etc. plus putting up and taking down the Wendy House. There is so much more to it than meets the eye, we never appreciated how involved it was going to be, we too ... read more

DAY 225 We overslept again; it was nearly 8.00 and moving day, so we have very little time this morning. The tea was made but I went off straight away for a shower, the showers were busy this morning, but there was one last cubicle left, so in I jumped. Expectations of a lovely hot shower to warm up from the chilly night were soon dashed when the luke warm water came out and did not get any hotter. Still it was a shower and I had no idea if there were showers at our destination so I took the opportunity. When I finished and went to the basins to clean my teeth there were a number of women standing around grumbling “I know this is the tropics, but it is winter, so hot water in ... read more

Day 49 (Monday 08/06/09, NJJ) Up at 5.40am for pick up for Kakadu National Park day trip. First stop after few hours journey was Burrungi and Anbangbang (Nourlangie Rock) where we did the planned walk - saw Aboriginal rock art and fantastic scenery. Had lunch at a holiday park before moving on to Ngurrungurrudjba (Yellow Water) for a Billabong Cruise. Once again fantastic scenery and wildlife. Journey back to Darwin took just under 4 hours. Had dinner at Outback Jack's before bed. ... read more

We have booked a 14 day tour from Darwin to Adeliade. It is actually three tours together so I'll split this acording to how the tours work, so our first trip was a 3 day / 2 night trip from Darwin to Litchfield and Kakadu Park. The tour is with a company called Adventure Travel, and I must say sometimes I wonder if I made the right choice as I'm not exactly an Adventous Traveller! The tour started at 6.30 in the morning. Well, this meant we had to meet at the office at 6.30am, but we didn't get on the bus to leave until 8, which was VERY ANNOYING! This didn't put us in a good mood, but we soon got over it (well you had to really!). There were 15 in our group, which ... read more
