(Photos to come) Right now (June 2008) it is freezing cold at home and I just found my travel journal which documents Lorenza and my trip around Tasmania in 1993. Why not add it to our travelblog! We had planned our ride around Tassie, then put a deposit on the block of land which our house now sits. We were tossing up if we could still afford the Tassie motorcycle tour and luckily decided if we didn't go ahead and do it we may not get the chance for some time to come. We took the tour on board our much loved Italian motorcycles which we owned at the time - Lorenza with her Moto Morini 350 and me with the Moto Guzzi SP1000. So, now on with the tour ... I did the tourist bit for a while: the inside of the opera house, Darling Harbour and a great exhibition about the construction of the Harbour Bridge in one of the bridge towers. I then managed to track down Mike at the same hostel he had been staying at last time. Much of the old Melbourne crowd was still there, so it was down to the pub to revisit old times. Of course, now that I have met up with Mike again, Arsenal bloody FC is going to be a big part of my life for a while. There was an open air classical concert in Sydney whilst I was there and, after the Carols by Candlelight experience, I decided to check it out. Rain stopped play however, which was a considerable disappointment for several thousand ... read more

Like King's Canyon, the Blue Mountains are also often referred to as Australia's Grand Canyon. Again, they are not a patch on the American version but they were spectacular none-the-less. The whole area is covered in a blue haze - hence the name - which is apparently caused by the evaporation of Eucalyptus oil. The main 'sight' - oh how very touristy - in the Blue Mountains are the Three Sisters. These are three spikes of rock which were formed when some witch cast a spell on three - wait for it - sisters. I can't remember exactly why such an extreme reaction was necessary, although it was probably due to an argument over some bloke or something. Hell hath no fury and all that! The best way to reach the base of the Three Sisters ... read more

Sydney was a city of extremes. On one hand it is definitely the most picturesque, glamorous and exciting of Australia's cities, but on the other hand it is the grottiest. For example whereas the traffic in Melbourne and Adelaide was relatively sparse and free flowing, Sydney was virtual gridlock and it took the bus several hours to get into the centre of town. Compared to Sydney's 'freeway', the M25 is positively speedy. Next, when we arrived at Kings Cross which is where all the backpacker hostels are, we were confronted with drug addicts, prostitutes, strip joints, beggars and god only knows who else openly doing their stuff in the street in the middle of the morning. In Soho or Kings Cross in London, at night, this would probably not come as any great surprise, but after ... read more

July 1, Wednesday. 560 kilometres today as you can see I’m putting in the long drives again, mainly because I’m finding very little that interests me. Weather very cold, overcast and its also raining. Didn’t stop until Forbes where I spent a couple of interesting hours looking through a pioneer village. Had some lunch then off south again to a place called Narrandera. Here I once again stayed in a caravan. Spent the evening calculating how much the trip had cost and an hour reading my journal. It has been a great trip but it's getting too close to finishing. Tomorrow I will be back home. ... read more

June 30, Tuesday. There wasn’t much to film, well not much that interested me. It’s funny that while the rough roads are wrecking my car I’m always wondering what is going to fall off next, I do enjoy the experience. It’s not always good; sometimes it’s very worrying. I’m glad it’s sealed roads all the way home. The cars generator light has been on for the last three days but the car is still going. It was a long day at the wheel and I managed to put 663 kilometres behind me. Decided to stay in another caravan tonight at Nyngan. Hope to see the children this weekend. Nothing happening at the pub so I didn’t stay long. ... read more

8 May, Friday: This morning I left town early. Stopped at Fort Grey (campsite) where I met a couple of blokes driving an old Holden Ute. I was amazed it had travelled this far into the bush. Drove onto Cameron’s Corner, which is where the borders of South Australia, New South Wales and Queensland meet. It was quiet an achievement just to reach this area because the vast range of speeds I experienced can only describe the condition of track, which was between 20-70 kph. The corrugations shook hell out of the car and I lost the exhaust at least four times during the trip, the last time I just had to wire it up. I was under the car doing the repairs when I noticed a Dingo checking me out, he made me a little ... read more
