Travelling to Sydney for a conference has bought us to the Novatel Sydney Olympic Park a 4 ½ star hotel in the heart of the Sydney Olympic Park. After the first night we can easily say that it is a comfortable hotel with friendly staff and a good venue for a conference. The venue is out of town someway and has a number of restaurants and eateries in its immediate vicinity. Our room along with a number on our floor has the most amazing curtains that would be at home in an episode of “Dexter”. A lovely evening was had with friends on our first night but we have discovered that the drinks are priced in the upper end of the market and the evening meal in the restaurant was lovely though again not very price ... read more

".......if I ever go looking for my heart's desire again, I won't look any further than my own back yard. Because if it isn't there, I never really lost it to begin with! Is that right?" -Dorothy Gale Wizard of Oz Eighty Days around the world was the brain wave at the start of this Tour or was it 80lb no thats the book title. Anyway so where did this voyage of discover get us ? This mid life crisis as some termed it where did it deliver us. Watching Everon on Tour and missing the only goal of the game as Philip has drunk to much(very easy as he doesnt drink these days). So the more things change the more they stay the same. so add it to the list of missed pre season goals ... read more

It's very bizarre sight to go get your bus in a Sydney suburb and see an Everton poster on the side of the bus stop. "IT'S ON" We swear that when we set out on this adventure we never knew Everton were coming out infact part of Philip went to get away and see what the world had to offer and They followed us they haven't been to Australia in 24 years so to be here when were here is just bonkers Philip will bore everyone senseless(doesn't he always) telling people how he has now seen Everton in four continents. It must be fate you can take the boy away from Everton but..... Anyway we are of to Watch Everton train at the Olympic stadium where Brett Lee is also Watching I wonder if he fancy ... read more

Today we are catching the bus to Sydney Olympic Park - Rob is very excited! However, once we arriveed this excitement dwindled somewhat. Unfortunately it was the night after and the night before an AC/DC concert and they had taken up the whole ANZ stadium, so instead of an hour and a half tour we were given only half an hour and were unable to stand on the medal podiums! Still we were going to make the most of this exerience so wandered around the olympic park village before heading to the Aquatic Centre for a dip! Here we made the most of the rapids ride!!! ... read more

As it is now Monday in North America, we can finally make some calls to try and deal with our situation. We reach the insurance company in Toronto and find that they will cover us to go to Hanoi instead of Bangkok, but that we need to try to make the arrangements through our ticket broker. We then call San Francisco and speak with Air Brokers International. They say that we are better off using an agent in Australia instead and they give us some names. Once again we head off to visit a travel agent. We haven't done much touristy stuff in a few days, though we have seen a lot of the city through our travels. This agent is on Pitt street, not far from the Thai Airways office so the route is familiar. ... read more

The news out of Thailand is still not looking good and the airport there is still occupied by protesters. Australia is trying to get it's citizens out of Phuket, a 16 hour bus ride away, so it doesn't look like we can get there anytime soon. We make a trip over to the local mall to use the INTERNET. It is quite cheap here, and we each get on a computer to check email and do some research including the latest news out of Thailand and India. Evy's sister Lily has a friend who is a Sydney travel agent, but the friend sends us an email saying that she only does wholesale travel so that connection will not pan out. The Thai Airways site isn't very informative, so we decide to head down to their office ... read more

We haven't yet booked for Sydney, so I make a few calls. Being so close to the weekend, most of our usual choices are already booked but we manage to find a holiday park in the Bass Hill part of Sydney. They are relatively close to a train station which is good as we will be getting rid of the car on Saturday. The drive to Sydney takes quite some time, with lots of road work on the way, but even when we reach Sydney it takes a long time to work our way though the edge of the city to our accommodation. The park is a bit of a disappointment, not that we were expecting that much. There is no INTERNET and the cabin is a bit cramped and a little on the run down ... read more

Hey Footy Fans! We write to you today about our first rugby game... and what a game it was. Every year during the Rugby League season there is a State of Origin series between New South Whales and Queensland. We soon realized that these are 3 of the biggest and most important games of the season as the best players are hand chosen from the entire league to represent the team from where they grew up. Each year the two teams alternate who gets to have two home games and this year NSW had games 1 and 3. NSW dominated game one and Queensland easily beat NSW in game 2, setting up a matchup for all the marbles in game 3. We had purchased a group of tickets long before the series started for this 3rd ... read more
