Australia was my biggest adventure to date. I lived an amazing life there for two years travelling all around and falling more and more in love with the country, the people and my life. I worked as an Au pair and lived in 4 different states Sydney,Melbourne,Perth and Darwin. Sydney is like your first love you fall so deeply in love with it that you don't know if you will ever find anything better. Its by far the most beautiful place in Australia and i loved every second of it. Every inch of this vibrant and lively city is filled with fashion, love, beauty and hope. I arrived in Sydney from a 24 hour plane ride but the adrenaline kept me going. I arrived with my new host family to my gorgeous house on a hill in St ... read more

Tuesday evening, María Paz Romo and I met with Vicky Fanta and Daniela Andrade. I knew Vicky from before, but couldn't remember Daniela, even though we were in the same school. By coincidence, her father taught a class I had in the Naval Polytechnic Academy in 2007 when I was studying to get my electronic engineering degree. Both went with their respective boyfriends, a chilean who works in the film making industry and a Belgium who works as a "roofer" (makes roofs in construction sites, nothing to do with roofies in case someone's wandering). They've been here for a while and, María Paz and I wanted to see how their overall experience has been. They're all living in Manly, so that in itself is a good thing. We met in a pub in Manly (big place) ... read more

We are renting a car for the first time since we arrived here - looking forward to see Sydney in the comfort of my own car, without smelling trains. It did not start off very well. The place that we were supposed to pick up the car from is located at 700 Foster Road, Hurstville; so, we started out from Hurstville train station, around 250 Foster Road, thinking we will get there within 15 minutes walk. After half an hour, we weren't even at 400!! THEN, we realized we will never get there on foot. It was hot and sunny, thinking about the broken O zone layer, I felt like skin cancer is building up inside my body. Taxi isn't very common here, we had no luck catching or even seeing one as we go. Finally, ... read more

After a couple days of work, I am exhausted! Yesterday I got to work around 9:15 and was immediately thrown into meeting everyone and updating powerpoint presentations for Kraft Foods. Our company is doing work for them right now in regards to their cheeses! Yumm! Unfortunately I have not been given any free samples. I have found it rather difficult to understand what my supervisor, Hana, is saying a lot of the time. For example, nappies = diapers, fortnightly = every other week, and take a piss = make fun of you. She sits right next to me and we have spent a lot of time laughing about the differences in English and in the cultures. She's originally from Slovakia, so she is especially difficult to understand. Essentially, I have spent the last two days at ... read more

Tuesday I had my interview at Research International! Everything went really well, I was only there for about 30 minutes because they did not need me to start today. My supervisors' names are Robin and Hana. I'm really excited about my placement because the workplace is very diverse (only 2 people actually from Australia). I found out that the CEO of the company is from Chicago and that's where the company's headquarters is. They told me that they are more than willing to help me get my foot in the door there when I start looking for a job. I'm also excited because they are going to have me do a wide range of tasks, anything from answering phones in reception, greeting clients, to making graphs from data in excel to developing power point presentations for ... read more

Hi all..... Well the time is almost here and we are in countdown mode.........checking and double checking everything....we are only taking carry on luggage so that is becoming a comic source of conversation....Mary is just realising the consequences and I think re assessing that decision......we will see what we end up with on Sunday....my suspicion is that Mary will want to take another bag to check in when she gets packing...... If any of you want to look at the blog that I will be endeavouring to update a lot you will need to register to read it unfortunately....I am not really sure how often I will get to write as it depends on a few things but at this stage I have intentions of putting as much as possible on the blog........and photos......us on camels ... read more
