Australia was my biggest adventure to date. I lived an amazing life there for two years travelling all around and falling more and more in love with the country, the people and my life. I worked as an Au pair and lived in 4 different states Sydney,Melbourne,Perth and Darwin.
Sydney is like your first love you fall so deeply in love with it that you don't know if you will ever find anything better. Its by far the most beautiful place in Australia and i loved every second of it. Every inch of this vibrant and lively city is filled with fashion, love, beauty and hope. I arrived in Sydney from a 24 hour plane ride but the adrenaline kept me going. I arrived with my new host family to my gorgeous house on a hill in St Ives overlooking a national park. I was told there would be a studio flat for me downstairs and they certainly didn't disappoint. It was beautiful with a balcony overlooking the national park and the most stunning scenery ever i knew i was in love. Secondly the kids oh wow i have never formed such a close bond so quickly with these amazing
and gorgeous little kids. The baby attached to me instantly and became my best friend. The older child loved having a "big sister" and just wanted to spend all his time with me. Whilst in Sydney i joined a Facebook group called Au pairs in Sydney, this was the best thing i ever did as i met some amazing people and friends for life. I now use the au pair Facebook pages all over the world to find tour guides in new countries and unforgettable experiences with complete strangers who turn into best friends. Sydney is a haven for awesome weekend adventures and the best people. Try heading to the blue mountains, and Bouddi national park and Sydney zoo where the giraffes have there own view of the opera house. There will never be enough room to tell you how much i love Sydney and all the awesome things you can do there so go find out for yourself and fall in love.
Darwin is like entering an old western movie with cowboys and bull riding and farms everywhere it really is another world. As most travellers know you have to do 3 months farm work to qualify for
your second year visa. My experience on the farm was horrible and i hated every minute of it (not farm life but the awful boss i had to deal with). I did however meet an awesome French girl who was my absolute saviour and i have no idea how i would have made it through without her. Darwin as a place is rural there is farm everywhere and the main entertainment is on a long strip of road in the middle of the city. Its a much slower and relaxed pace of life and if you are used to that lifestyle then im sure its heaven on earth. I missed the city and after 3 months was very eager to leave. I did however enjoy a night at the rodeo which is a must do in Darwin.
Next stop is Perth this little tiny place in the corner of Australia has a lot to offer. Whilst it may not be as big as other major cities it has a certain charm to it. The city is basically the same as any other city except but a lovely little hidden gem i found in London street made me realise id
found my new home (for a while anyway). Fremantle which is a gorgeous little quaint town in Perth is beautiful and full of eclectic stores and has a great buzz around it. The indoor market is great with some unique dining options like Nitrus oxide ice cream which is surprisingly very good. Theres also free fruit to taste all around the food market. Another must do in Perth is Rottnest Island this is an amazing island only an hour away from Perth city. I was brought the tickets as a gift and i loved it its so pretty and there lies the famous Quokka's who have to be the happiest animals on the planet. They actually have a smile on their face always.
Melbourne is not what i expected when i arrived. I guess i fell so much on love with Sydney that nowhere was going to be better but Melbourne was great in its own way. Melbourne is a city with a bohemian influence every corner you turn round there is art on walls and buskers on the street it has its own culture. There is loads to do around Melbourne and my weekend trips were the best
times i had there, i highly recommend the Grampians, the great ocean road and Wilsons prom. Melbourne is a great place to shop and party and there is loads to do on weekends. As an Au pair i dont have many expenses so all my cash was used on my weekends away and exploring all the tourist attractions around.
I did visit other places in Australia like Airlie beach, The barrier reef, Whitsundays, Hobart and Byron bay. All were amazing places to go and ill definitely be back to visit them all again one day.
Australia is just like any other country its the people you meet there that make the experience amazing. Would i live in Australia again no would i visit yes. Australia is amazing i highly recommend everyone lives there at some point in their lives. Now its one of my most cherished memories and the friends i met there will be friends forever.
