English I am still in hospital, it is week no. four now. Last Thursday, I received pretty frustrating news. The doctors told me that I would not be allowed to put weight onto my pelvis for 16 weeks, so almost 13 more weeks from now. The fracture in my pelvis is sort of transverse, and they fear that all that they have fixed nicely might move out of place again if I start weightbearing too soon. It takes bones four months to heal completely, so they want it all to be nice and stable before I start walking. I really was frustrated after receiving the news. I thought I would be on crutches soon. So there are a lot of plans that I will have to change. My health insurance is currently organizing my flight back ... read more

Hey!! Our first stop was Newcastle a couple of hours north of Sydney! We only planned on staying there a day or 2 to do a winery tour but it turned out that the tour left fist thing in the morning so we had already missed it so we decided to stay and extra night! That afternoon we went to the beach and spent hours playing in the humongous waves before heading to a pub for a free dinner (organised through the hostel) which was gross! The next day we did the winery tour which included cheese tasting!! yum! :o) It was a really lovely day... the wineries were all gorgeous and we got a couple of bottles of nice wine and lots of yummy cheese (which unfortunately didn't last very long thanks to a long ... read more

After spending two whole weeks in Sydney, a city which we loved, Kevin and I decided it was time to start checking out the rest of Australia. We bought Mini Traveler bus passes from Greyhound, which would give us 45 days to travel from Sydney to Cairns, up the east coast, and allow us to hop-on and hop-off as often as we want along the way. So, on Wednesday, February 18th, we hopped on our first Greyhound bus heading north to Newcastle! Newcastle is located 162km north-east of Sydney. It is the second most populated city in New South Wales (after Sydney, of course), with a population of approximately 288,000. It is located directly on the coast and has some amazing beaches. After arriving at Newcastle, we located our hostel, which is about a five minute ... read more

English I'm still in hospital, recovering slowly, but getting better every day. And everyone who knows about my injuries says that I'm doing incredibly well. When you read from me last time, I was close to madness - I hadn't been out of bed for one and a half weeks and was still in pain. During the last one and a half weeks, I made some progress. I'm almost off painkillers, still a little bit in pain, but it is really bearable. Last Tuesday, I needed another operation. I had had a bolt through my left leg in order to put traction on my pelvis before the pelvis operation. That wound was inflamed, so it needed to be cleaned out. It's all good now. I'm still not allowed to put weight on my pelvis, so I'm ... read more

Hello again! Well, it is a rainy day and I have absolutely nothing else to do but update my blog! Hopefully this time, I will finally get it up to date! Sooooo..... where did I leave off? Alright, well, after Caroline and I slept in Manly with Glenn, we took a train up to Newcastle to stay with Robbie for a while. We got to Robbie's on Jan 17 (Sat) in the late afternoon. Robbie, being the party animal that he is, really wanted to take us out, so, we all went down to the local gay nightclub! It was so much fun! The three of us went, along with Lewi and Keira (Robbie's roomate and his girlfriend). It was so much fun and it was nice that we could just walk there from Robbie and ... read more

English Here are some news from John Hunter Hospital, Newcastle. To start with: I am alive and I am getting better every day. Some of you probably read about my accident on the OzReport. I thought I might tell you the entire story. On Thursday one week ago, I went to Broken Back with Camo and Hadewych, about one hour inland from Newcastle. Conditions at launch looked good. There had been a little fire at the bottom of the hill that had been extinguished, but the smoke showed us that the air was going up quite well along the ridge. Hadewych launched first, caught a thermal right in front of launch and got up easily. I followed. Did a turn in front of launch, got up a bit, and then suddenly the lift was gone. I ... read more

English I decided to drive to Canberra through the Snowy Mountains. As I had driven through Thredbo and Jindabyne, which is the southerly route, last year, I took the northerly route this year. It took me to Cabramurra, which is the highest town in Australia, at more than 1,400 metres above sea level. The landscape up there is very wild and natural, true highlands! And Cabramurra was deserted - not even the service station was open. I was glad I had expected something like that and was not short of fuel. After a beautiful drive that had taken me almost seven hours, I arrived in Australia's capital, Canberra. Liz and Ed had invited me to their place. It was really good to see them again. They live in the north of Canberra, and they have two ... read more

Hey Everyone! I'm back with lots to tell! I should really be updating this every week so that I remember more details and won't have to write huge entries to cover 3 weeks at a time. Oh well! Alright, not too sure where I left off, but I believe it was with Pyramid Rock Festival. After the festival, I went back to Lucy's parent's place. They me on a tour of the Peninsula. We drove around and also did a big hike. It was a really beautiful day! Lucy's dad, Mark, was an expert at pointing out all the kangaroos along the hike. I was so excited to see so many kangaroos. I was able to get pretty close to this really big one before he hopped away. We also saw this lizard... not sure what ... read more

Last Days in Newcastle After returning from surf camp we had 9 days left in Newcastle. We rested on Monday because we ached so much from all the paddling, but from Tuesday onwards Uncle Mike offered to be our personal tour guide and take us out and about wherever we wanted to go. I had expressed an interest in playing lawn bowls which is very popular over here with all ages so on Tuesday evening we went along to Hamilton Bowls Club. We spent a good hour perfecting our technique, trying to get our balls as close to the kitty as possible. Mike and I really enjoyed it and would definitely play again. To Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest On Wednesday, Uncle Mike and Helen took us to meet their friends Liv and Greg who live ... read more
