There was an Old Woman ...
This cute sculpture of a "shoe house" was another feature in the front gardens of the B&B. Grafton to Inverell via Glen Innes along the Gwydir Highway
We were up, packed and ready for breakfast by about 8.00 a.m. Terry again provided us with a delicious breakfast - the same fare as the day before - and we again shared it with our cute green frog. We then chatted to the other guests and promised that we would be back to share this beautiful part of the country, and especially the fantastic B&B and all its many trimmings! There are three words we would use to describe Clarence River B&B: Quality, Generosity and Hospitality. We've stayed at a lot of wonderful B&Bs but this really was the classiest in all aspects.
We were on the road again by 10:00 and headed off to the Gibraltar Ranges National Park along the Gwydir Highway. The weather was a bit overcast but great for travelling and the scenery was just beautiful. Everything was green and lush. We headed up the range and stopped at the lookout for a photo shoot. Just as we went to get in the car we heard the water bubbling in the radiator so checked it and decided to have a cuppa while we waited
Timber Framed Mirror in Stairway
One of several mirrors with beautiful timber frame which Greg had fashioned and placed around the B&B. He truly was very gifted. for it to cool down. A very friendly couple, Val and Geoff from Tasmania, pulled in and we chatted to them for ages about their caravaning adventures around Australia (they'd been on the road for two years and loved it). He said that they were heading to Glen Innes so would follow us to assist us if the car caused any more problems, which was a Godsend!
Praise the Lord we had no more problems so they left us at Glen Innes and we found a cafe for lunch. While waiting for our order we were greeted with "Well look who's here?" and it was Karen and Kevin McCloskey from Gateway! Only three weeks previously we had been at the cafe at Queen Mary Falls when we met Kees and Robyn Payens from Gateway so we were shocked to meet others from church so far from home in such a short period of time. To add even more to that, in February, while at our resort in the Cook Islands, we had also met Len and Ros Elms who also go to Gateway - so in the space of two months we had met three different couples from
Our Wonderful Hosts - Terry & Greg
The two most generous and friendly hosts you could imagine. Terry couldn't do enough for us in providing us with drinks and snacks continually and Greg was very generous in taking us out on the river. church in places a LONG way from home! We chatted to them over lunch and found out that Karen works in the Birthing Suite at RBH (just down the corridor from Sascha) and like Sascha has also been to Rwanda!
We left Glen Innes and drove to Inverell, loving the autumn colours on the avenues of trees along the highway.
Once we arrived in Inverell we went for a drive around the town to familiarise ourselves with it and then drove down to the Copeton Dam for a look. It is normally huge (3 times the size of Sydney Harbour) but was down to 12 per cent capacity due to the drought, but still covered a very large area. While here we were greeted by a very friendly little Murray Grey calf.
Afterwards we checked in to the Cousins Motor Inn, which was very comfortable, and then walked along the Macintyre River into town. On the way it started pouring with rain so we eventually found the RSM (Returned Soldiers Memorial Club) and decided to have dinner there while waiting out the rain. We played three games of pool, Steve won two and Jeni
Mann River on Gwydir Highway
On the way to Glen Innes we cross the Mann River - it was quite cloudy but this added to the beauty of the area. one, and then had a delightful dinner with Steve ordering Guiness Pie & Vegies with a Lemon Squash and Jeni having a T-Bone Steak with Salad and Lemon, Lime and Bitters.
It was still raining when we finished so we caught a taxi back to the motel, where we relaxed and got ready for bed and an early night.
