Day 76 Up early showered and shaved, I am still persevering with my cut throat razor, and am getting the close shave I like, I haven’t cut off an ear or anything yet so all is going well. I don’t know what I am going to do when I run out of my stock of Taylor’s of Old Bond Street shaving cream, and alum block, I will have to find a supplier some where over here. It probably takes me three times longer to shave this way, but it just seems so worth it, we all have our little pleasantries that make us feel good. We had a light brecky and headed off to Taronga Zoo here in Dubbo, the weather was cool and cloudy so a good day to see animals active, we had heard ... read more

....Well, the title was easy. I have had it in mind for a long time now. I even have a subtitle "... and miles to go before I sleep", for those of you who understand the reference. But how to go from here? It was the idea of actually crossing Australia from one side to the other without flying once which attracted me this time. Having seen quite a lot of the country on my previous three visits it was not encountering kangaroos or goannas, watching the sunset at Ayers Rock (now mostly called by its indigenous name "Uluru"), throwing a boomerang, or some such thing which held fascination for me. My present adventures are of a completely different type than the ones I had in Africa and might not come across as particularly thrilling or ... read more

Nun ... read more

Two week trip to central NSW. From to Sydney to Geurie (20 km south of Dubbo) to visit friends . Stopped off half way at Kelso Pub (Just at beginning of Bathurst ) for a nice break and lunch. Spent a week with friends at their "resort" home called Possum Ridge. Guerie is a cute town with great houses and cottages, all with those beautiful wide verandahs wrapped around the properties. We climbed Bald Hill in 15 mins or so and enjoyed an amazing view from the top. Many people in Geurie grow their own produce and had chickens, etc. You don;t want to be driving in to Wellington or Dubbo every time you need something so preparing a shopping list is vital. Dubbo has all the usual stores but they are enormous. A few malls ... read more

We decided to visit Dubbo in lieu of Wilpena Pound, then travel further south in NSW through West Wyalong to Hay then on to Mildura and Port Agusta where we will be back on track with our original plans. Our time at Dubbo gave us a chance to catch up on things, we now have a re-stocked fridge, the washing is done and the floor got another wash as well...so now we are all set to move on. Last night we went over to the recreation room at the caravan park to watch the State of Origin football match on the BIG screen...dissappointing result for NSW better luck in the deceiding game! Our visit to Dubbo Zoo (Western Plains Zoo) was wonderful...we had a 2 day pass and just had a quick drive through to make ... read more

New York, London, Paris, Mudgee, Rome……… We left Bathurst for Mudgee on Tuesday 20th, a trip of 236km, and after the stops mentioned in the last blog, we arrived in Mudgee greeted by another beautiful day. I remember Mudgee from being here for my cousin Evan’s wedding some 20+ years ago - and I have to say that it’s lost some of the quaintness I remember. I think that Victoria has more picturesque winery towns than Mudgee - but we needed a rest (yes, its stressful all this travel) so we set up for a few days. Wednesday was spent with a walk around town, washing of the car and our usual cocktail hour. On Thursday, we mapped out 5 wineries to visit from the tourist map. Feeling adventurous (and the affects of constant eating and ... read more

Julie - Only home 24 hours and I returned to the airport to fly to Dubbo for my cousin Brett's wedding. The wedding and the weekend were a great success and the bride looked stunning, as you will see from the pics! I also brought home the Peruvian hat called a chullo (chu-yo) for everyone (made from alpaca wool)...you will agree they all look really super sexy in them! ... read more

Julie - Well, we have just returned from our "weekend in the country"...attending our first ever Poulter Family Reunion...and what a weekend it was! Let's start at the beginning... About a year ago, my Dubbo family members decided that it was time to hold a reunion for our Poulter family and invite not only our oldest aunties and uncles but all the extended clan, including cousins some of us had never met. The date was set down for the Easter long weekend in 2008. For many months leading up to the event, the Dubbo mob was hard at work, organising the venue, the food and the entertainment. I was also very busy working on researching as much as I could about our family history and then working on presentations and posters, etc. I gave a few ... read more
