I was the lucky winner of being pulled aside to be checked by customs. He took one look at my stuffed pack and just asked me what was in it. I said that it was my dirty laundry, and he said, “I’ll take your word for it.” It is a good think that I’m not a cocaine smuggler! It was a long two days of traveling - I was pretty much sick of transportation by this point. It feels good to be home, but I already miss my toilet paper carrying days where “Donde esta el bano?” is a very scary question and the land of cold showers. I must admit that I think I’ve fallen in love with South America and I can’t wait to return! Even though it was only 15 days, it was ... read more

This is my page about KnoxvilleI lived in Knoxville for about two years. I moved there because I was offered a job at the University of Tennessee which is a flagship University, the largest in the state. Knoxville is a wonderful city situated on an international waterway. It is located just outside Great Smoky Mountains National Park and is home to the University of Tennessee Volunteer football and basketball teams. There is lots to do in Knoxville. First and foremost, the seasons are incredible and it is a very tempered area, which means that it is never too cold in the winter and the summer, although hot, is very tolerable. The spring brings blooming at the beginning of March, just in time for the famousDog Wood Festivalwhich happens in April. I live in one of the ... read more

I went to the IE office today to speak with my advisor and we commiserated over how nonsensical KG's system of doing things is. She checked my application status online and, get this: IT SAYS I AM STILL MISSING THINGS. BUT EVERYTHING HAS BEEN SENT IN! However, the file was last updated on April 5th. I scanned the list and most everyone had already been notified except for a handful of people. I did everything right, why am I not hearing anything? : ( I'm so scared. I registered for classes just in case. I really want to not have to take them. She said to come back in 3-4 days and that we'd check it again, unless I'd already heard in the meantime. KGKGKG, please e-mail me with something I want to hear. :... read more

Western Man Eastern World Westerners in Japan are referred to as Gaijins, which translates more or less as foreigner. Japanese people might even call on you as Gaijin-San, Mr. Foreigner. You have to keep in mind that Japan is 99% Japanese. So, while we get to experience all the diversity the United States has to offer, some countries do not have this ability. Xenophobia, which can be defined as racial intolerance, is an issue that exists within Japan as well as other homogeneous cultures. This fear cannot be avoided and ignorance exists within every country, but xenophobia is more of a prevalent fear within these countries. As such, it is easy to say that, contrarily to many other peoples in the world, most Japanese share the same beliefs and the same preconceived ideas. Japan’s isolation from ... read more

Between the sales rep and I, we purchased twelve (12) tickets to the LB Gran Prix to entertain customers. Our seats were in the Grand Stand area, right by the finish line. This was my first time to a Gran Prix race. I brought my digital video camera, my digital camera, binoculars, sun block, but I forgot to take some darn ear plugs! Once the race started, the roar of the cars was unbearably high....... read more
