We've been visiting Paul's family for almost two weeks, spending time with his grandmother, aunts, uncles, and cousins in Fort Worth, Texas. His mom even came down for a couple of days, and his brother for a couple of weeks. Mostly we just spent time hanging out and enjoying the weather. We had to change our truck and camper tires, as the truck tires were pretty bald and the trailer tires were starting to tear up a bit. The new ones have a 60,000 mile warranty, so they'll definitely last us the rest of the trip!! One of our mini adventures was simply a dinner at Wing Stop, where Paul dared his brother Brandon to eat 3 hot wings spiced with habanero peppers. Well, Brandon was $20 richer, but his mouth wasn't too happy! On ... read more

Well hello there Its been a while since we last wrote but its not due to a lack of things to tell you all about. In the last month or so we have enjoyed a concert by Sting and The Police, celebrated our first overseas birthday and taken a trip to Whistler. A few weekends back Emma and one of her colleagues received a phone call from one of the staff members working for Sting and The Police on their comeback tour. Apparently the group (who kicked off the tour in Vancouver) are fans of some of the L'Occitane product range and offered a deal where The Police would gift a number of tickets to the groups first concert in 25 years in exchange for a few care packages for the boys to enjoy backstage prior ... read more

Bicycling capital of AmericaMaureen Kelly/Robert Tait The Elroy-Sparta Wisconsin State Trail was the first “rails to trails” established in the country. The trail is 32 miles in length on the abandoned Chicago-Northwestern Railroad bed, it passes through three rock tunnels. In Wisconsin trail passes are required for bikers 16 years of age or older. The cost is $4.00 per day or $15.00 for the season. We camped at the Tunnel Trail Campground right on the trail. Since it is Sunday, we took advantage of the Wilton Lions Club Sunday morning pancake breakfast. We biked north to Wilton (app. 5 miles) had breakfast with the riders and campers. Then returned south to Elroy (app. 12 miles). Our total for today was 33 miles because of the return ride. We returned to the campground packed up and drove ... read more

June 10th I arrived late in Cedar City the night before so I didn't scope out my motel very well only to discover my neighbours had a lot of late night visitors. I sure they're harmless drug dealer/prostitutes. I'm sitting in "The Grind" coffee shop when Bruce pulls up and parks his yellow Ducati 749S beside my bike. He walks up to me and proclaims the collection of bikes "civilized". LOL I spend the rest of the day cruising around town and checked out the local Walmart. I got id trying to purchase a leatherman tool (appearantly you need to be over 21?) The clerk couldn't believe my age. June 11th Today I met Bruce at The Grind for a guided ride through the canyons behind Cedar city towards Panguitch. The ride was fantastic as ... read more

Six guys and three days and a back to nature adventure. And hanging out with just guys is a very different experience than when girls are around. The nature of the conversation changes, we relax more, etc. For most of the time on the trip, I wore just a hat and a bathing suit... wearing shoes only when necessary. It was a very liberating feeling... kind of like a Huck Finn free-spirit. Most of the others guys wore about the same. Over the three days, we spent a lot of time talking and joking around. It was great to hang out with Luke and Brandon while also getting to know Adam, Rubin, and Luther. We all have different personalities and interests. We packed up Friday afternoon in Springfield and headed down to Yellville, AR to pick ... read more

Jerry Seinfeld is the Devil. His show ruined my life. I can hardly go a single day without something happenening that causes me to make a lame Seinfeld reference. This day was no exception. The Shangri-La hotel, nice as it is, is situated next to a 24-hour gas station. The shades on the windows of the Shangri-La might as well not be there. The light poured through the window, keeping me up most of the night. So, of course, it didn't take me long (it was probably before we left the Shangri-La, but after we had both showered in our flip-flops) to tell Rachel that I felt like Kramer in the Kenny Rogers Roasters episonde, expect without the delicious chicken to make it all worthwhile. I mean, I didn't even think about it. It's not like ... read more

Hi everyone, today's journal entry is a simple update. Graduation is now completed and we are taking care of the not so fun part of our forthcoming adventure. The details--packing and paperwork. I have applied for an international driver's license and have begun to take care of some of the insurance issues. In order to get an international driver's license you must apply through your local CAA office. It costs $15 and you will need two passport photos. The insurance for our family will cost $1040 for $2 million emergency medical and life insurance for the ten months. If you want to come to Costa Rica I can recommend a terrific tour company. Alonso was our guide last year when we went at Easter. He has a company that does custom tours. http://www.elementonatural.com/ Let me know ... read more

I cannot express how much I have missed the beach. I also, cannot express how much I miss the complete lack of traffic in Columbia, MO. Traffic sucks. But the beach makes it all worthwile. We drove to the "Duck House," my parents beach house this weekend and had so much fun. Friday we had crab cakes and beers and wine and stayed up late talking and playing cards and listening to the sound of the water. I wish I could live on the porch listening to the sounds of the water lapping up on the shore. Saturday was a perfect beach day and alas, it was not crowded!!! YAY!!!!! We spent almost 7 hours sitting on the beach. We people watched, went for long walks and swam in the Atlantic. I LOVE the beach. Saturday ... read more
