Ariel and I first night out in Denver! The drive from Kansas City to Denver went by quicker than either of us expected. We drove through Kansas, which is indescribably flat, and pulled into Denver around 1am; the city spread out before us as a sprawling expanse of twinkling lights. After arriving at Pierce's apartment we pretty much went right to sleep. Thursday, after Pierce got off work, we went downtown to the 16th street mall and met a bunch of his friends, and his girlfriend Megan, for happy hour and dinner at The Paramount. The next day, Friday, we sought out a rooftop patio so Joel could see the Rocky Mountains for the first time. We got to one just in time for sunset and watched as the sun slowly disappeared behind the mountains to the West, and the almost-full moon rose over the plains to the East. It is beautiful here!
The weekend consisted of a decadent brunch at Annie's, a drive out to Red Rocks Amphitheater and a short hike up the adjacent mountain, multiple trips to the hot tub in Pierce's apartment, and lots of grilling, chess games, and football. It was a good time all around. Monday afternoon Joel and I said goodbye

Ariel and her brother Pierce in Denver. to Pierce and Megan, and headed out to run some errands and make the drive to Boulder to see Jeanie. The drive from Denver to Boulder is breathtaking! We had dinner with Jeanie that night, and took her to the airport early the next morning. While staying at her house we are taking care of her giant, half-feral cat, Bob. He played nice while Jeanie was there, but the second we showed back up without her all bets were off. Earlier today he held me hostage on the bed!! Literally, I had to throw a blanket over him and make a break for the door. The house itself is absolutely amazing, and we can even see Denver from the deck! We have plans to go back into Denver and out to the mountains with Pierce this weekend, but until then we are just enjoying Boulder!
