”When I rest, I rust.” ----German Proverb . We decided last night to start heading home, the Tetons will still be there another day. We traveled out of Yellowstone by the East Gate and said “Good-bye” to the bison still clogging traffic as they eat their way into winter. On trip home included a stop in Cody,WY. Then we drove to Forest City Iowa, to visit the Winnebago factory, dealer. I am convinced the new VIEW will make our travels so much more pleasant. So we are gathering information and comparing price. Our journey has included 14,000 miles, the experiences, the sights and the people we met, were mind-boggling. We have memories to cherish and to laugh at. So WHEN we are oldER we can sit and remember when…. It was truly a trip of a ... read more

"Silence is the true friend that never betrays" --Confucius August 26, 2005, Friday. We planned to get to Yellowstone today, but Kel has a UTI and we waited and waited for a script to be approved and faxed from Pittsburgh to Bozeman. We finally got the meds and were on our way about noon. We arrived at Yellowstone from the northern entrance and got our mail at the post office. This is our last mail pick-up until we get home. We walked around Mammoth Hot Springs. It is quite a build up town, with hotels and restaurants and shops. It is also hot! After being north in the cool weather all summer, the heat is a surprise, but these are “hot springs”. We continued on to Fishing Bridge, our home for the next few days. ... read more

The Shahs go to Yellowstone . . . over 2 million acres of protected land. We headed out the first day to see the famous geysers and, within 15 minutes of driving, had our first wildlife sighting - a bison on the side of the road. We actually passed it, turned the car around to slowly creep up next to it, and started photographing from different angles to capture the moment. By the end of 3 days, bison sightings were so common that I became disinterested. . . herds of them can be seen at waterholes, on hilltops, in valleys, along the road, crossing the road . . . of the 3,000 bison in the park, I think we saw the vast majority of them . . . and, frankly, they just aren't cute animals. Jake made breakfast this morning, fried potatoes and bacon and eggs. Mom and the girls and I went for a walk along the river this morning. Someone had made a neat fort on the bank in miniture, though I didn't have the camera with me to take a picture. We hope to make it to Missoula by tonight. We are on our way to Yellowstone and left at 9 am from camp. We have been seeing all sorts of neat flowers and sights in Yellowstone. When we came through this May there was snow in the south entrance and we went through a snow storm at the east entrance. We made the top loop for most of the way. We saw a real idiot standing just feet away from a bull bison with his children. Soon ... read more

We spent two days in Wyoming at both the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone National Parks. The first day we went to Grand Tetons. We did a hike around Jenny Lake and then up to Hidden Falls. The view was beautiful but once we got to the top it started to downpour. We managed to stay mostly dry on the hike back and then of course when we finished it stopped raining. I called my Mom when we got back to the bus and found out that the heir to Wal Mart had crashed his plane and passed away in the park earlier that day. We could see the helicopters circling looking for his plane. That night we camped near Yellowstone. I was very excited to use my new tent for the first time. Although I was ... read more

Well this national park is really spectacular, the sight of the Grand Tetons is simply breathtaking. Staying in Mammouth Hot Springs we had a great base to explore all the major springs of this super volcano, it was quite something, ntilalthough this area stunk of all those natural gases! If you come here watch out for the Bisons, those animals are huge and I hear more dangerous than the bears! Bears, we were looking out for them but had no luck until our waiter in the lodge, this old cowboy guy who looked like he should have been either the local baddie in a western or the sheriff tipped us on a particular valley where all the bears are... he was only bloody right, five minutes down the road it was like jellystone NP, there were ... read more

Here it is; the report of the Oly Trio’s September 2004 Vacation and Photography trip to the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone National Park. The report is divided into four parts. This is Part 3. Some images of this photo safari are available for view and purchase at my online gallery NW Exposures. Thur 9/16/04 We departed the Teton Range for Yellowstone. Learning that bears are even more active in Yellowstone, we decided to stay near the small town of West Yellowstone and make day trips into the park. We entered Yellowstone from the south and made stops at waterfalls and creeks along the way for photos. We visited the hot springs area of West Thumb Geyser Basin and Paint Pots. West Thumb. We stopped off at the Old Faithful area. Click on the following link to ... read more

Some images of this photo safari are available for view and purchase at my online gallery NW Exposures. Tues 9/7 We left Olympia on Tuesday morning, September 7, after visits to the liquor store, the post office, hardware and grocery stores. It was fortunate we had a short driving day scheduled. Following a pre-planned route from Olympia, we circumnavigated Mt. Rainer on northwest Highway 410, traveling over Chinook Pass to Little Naches campground. This was the first real road trip with our new Quicksilver fold-out tent trailer that is light enough to tow behind our four cylinder Subaru Forester that has a ... read more
