Our second day in Yellowstone gave Nancy and I an opportunity to hike while the guys took the kids on a guided fishing trip on Yellowstone Lake. There are not a lot of pictures to show for the day as Nancy and I spent most of it talking and there was no way the guys were going to manage 4 kids, a boat, 6 fishing poles and a camera. Nancy and I were hankering for a long hike but got a bit thwarted by a bear. We had driven from Grant Village all the way to the east entrance of the park to go on a hike up to a peak but when we got there, we were greeted by a throng of flies and a park ranger who informed us the trail was closed due ... read more

I can already tell as I sit to write this that most of my memories will be photo driven as the last two weeks are a wonderful blur. As I won’t even try to get it all down, I’ll start with the highlights and then I’ll fill it in as I remember (or not). If you are interested, I am in the laundry room in Jackson WY at the Virginian Resort campground. I am in the laundry room as it is 10pm, Ed is not landing until 12am, and the internet is not working in the RV at the moment. I am checking in on the kids who are asleep and about 20 ft. away in the RV. So we picked up Nancy and the girls and with instant friends for all in the RV we ... read more

We picked up Alan’s Dad (JC) in Salt Lake City on 06/11 and headed for Jackson Hole, WY. We spent only a few days there and would like to return someday. The beauty of Grand Tetons National Park is quite dramatic! We saw elk, buffalo, and a few young female moose, just grazing on roadside vegetation. Alan was the first to spot a bear waiting to cross the road! Jackson is somewhat of a tourist town, but very quaint and cute. We left there reluctantly and headed to West Yellowstone, Montana. We entered Yellowstone National Park from the south gate, only to stop midway through the park as it began to rain, then sleet, then snow, and finally hailed. The temperature in Jackson was about 67; when we stopped to let the storm blow by, it ... read more

Hi Everyone, Travelblog doesn’t seem to be working all too reliably these days so I thought I would give it a try, so hopefully it will work. We have spent the last couple of days in Wyoming at Yellowstone National Park. This is one of my favorite places that I have ever traveled to. There are so many different types of sights to see from multi colored boiling mud pots, mammoth hot springs, canyons, waterfalls, fumaroles, and my favorite the beautiful springs all over the park. We tried to make it to most of the stops along the way but Yellowstone is so huge that I’m sure we missed some. Of course one of our first stops was to the Grand Prismatic Spring which is my favorite place in the park. It is this giant hot ... read more

Two Parks…no waiting. Our day began with the girls checking out of Cowboy Bob’s Cute ‘Lil Cabins … Weren’t they positively adorable?! We entertained the idea of returning this winter for a fun getaway ski weekend adventure, but the thought of spending a freezing January evening in that place sounded, ummmm, COLD. We’re pretty sure that the teeny little wall heater wouldn’t come close to throwing enough BTU’s to keep us all from turning blue. Hey - if we thought it was chilly in the evening in June… yeah - we’re SO Southern California. But we digress… after checking out, we were off to see the Grand Teton National Park. Right off, Beth spots a guy in a pick-up with a rifle IN HIS GUNRACK! Way cool… We were just petering around, enjoying the scenery on ... read more

Just incase anyone is planning to do a similar drive to this, remember the drive from Grand Canyon to Yellowstone Park IS NOT 12hrs, its about 16 with the time change!!! SOo we left around 8 am and didn't arrive till 1am in the morning!! After a flat tire, and 16 hrs in the car we were ready to just relax today. Slept in and headed to see the Old Faithful Geiyser. We saw so many buffalo and a few deer, a couple foxes and a coyote. We made it back to our campsite, and it rained for about 4 hrs, so we just watched a movie in the tent and ventured into West Yellowstone for supper. And now we are parked in a best western parking lot, stealing there internet!! Sooo another long drive tomorrow ... read more

Unlike other National Parks we have been to Yellowstone is by far the most remote. Set predominantly in the Northwest corner of Wyoming with parts of the park crossing into both Idaho and Montana. The nearest major city was Salt Lake, which was back in Utah some 350 miles away. However the seclusion and remoteness only added to the mystery and tranquillity of this place. Entering at the Southeast entrance it was still a further 27 miles before we hit the main 167-mile loop road. Along the way there we spotted a Bison and desperately stopped the car in order to take a picture, not realising that Bison are in abundance all over the park and that this was one of many that we would eventually see. The road, lined with snow in places and at ... read more

Setting off early yet again, myself and Marcus drove from Cody to the east entrance of Yellowstone, to encounter a bizarre change in weather; it must have dropped 20 degrees F as soon as you went across the checkpoint and there was alot of fog and snow still left from the winter. Unfortunately there were roadworks for the first 6 miles or so into the park, so we and about 6 cars had to be taken through with a convoy vehicle before we descended onto the north of Yellowstone Lake. The weather improved as we drove across the park and we did get to see some wildlife, Bison and deer in particular. Yellowstone is amazing and there are two loops you can take the north and the south, we chose the south as you get to ... read more

Through the northern enterance this time we manged to get into the park. There was this ranger who didn´t want to let us in since we were driving a car with virginia license plates. We had to pull some strings there and finally agreed on driving backwards in the park... that´s pretty hard to do you know. Specially on winding roads... The weather again was great. In the 90´s unfortunatly that also made the animals hide more. They also were hot and therefor were looking for shade. I don´t blame them. The buffalo´s did not have that many baby´s as two years ago. We guess they have had a very hard winter here... and that some of the buffalo didn´t make it to spring. They all look very skinny... Well for a buffalo that is. You ... read more

Lake Tahoe 17-18/10/05 We drove as far as Tahoe City on Lake Tahoe and stopped overnight. The next morning we hiked up Eagle Rock to take in the views and try out the new lens. There was a fire over the other side of the lake which had been burning for a couple of days, and you could see a thin layer of smoke spreading out across the lake. We chatted for a while to a couple called Tammy and Terry (encouraging them to take the trip to the Amazon that they had always dreamed about) before heading back down into town and replacing our Petzl head torches which had been destroyed in the bike crash. We then drove on to Elko, home of the Cowboy Poetry Festival (of which we have no examples) and had ... read more
