Steve & Jim
At Bond Falls near Paulding, MI-Halfway between Watersmeet & Bruce Crossing We had one more mission to accomplish and that was to bring Steve's original windshield up to KMS for the sled he traded in. He was able to fit it in his tunnel bag and Tuesday's mission was to ride to Houghton and back, a ride of around 200+ miles. On the way up, we stopped at Bond Falls beween Watersmeet and Bruce Crossing, since Jim had not seen the falls. They are pretty in the winter with so much of the water frozen in the falls. When we arrived at KMS, Steve had them add a couple more accessories while he and Jim went for lunch. I rode down 15 miles to the Mosquito Inn for lunch and they met me down there for the 90 mile ride back to Land O.
Now for the embarrassing part. Everyone who has ridden with me has heard me preach about getting gas whenever you even think you should. I've always said I never heard anyone say they had too much gas, but I've sure heard people say they were getting real low on gas miles from a gas station many times. I always thought I carried a siphon for other guys
and have used it for other guys a few times. Well, this time it was put to use for me. I ran our of gas about 10 miles south of Twin Lakes. A real dumbass move on my part. Of course I have an excuse. The gauge was showing that the tank was pretty low, but when my the other matching 600 Etec's gauge gives a low fuel warning, there is about 3 gallons of gas left. Well, this one's different. When it says you're low, you're low! I thought there was no problem making the 20 miles from Twin Lakes to Mass City where we planned to top off for the rest of the ride home. Anyway, shame on me for not following my own preaching. Anyone wants to give me shit about it, I have it coming. Thankfully, I did have the siphon and Steve siphoned gas from his sled to mine.
After fueling up in Mass city, we made a bit of detour to stop to the Rousseau Bar, since Jim had never been there. That added another 20 miles to the return trip, but the trails were smooth and the riding was easy. At every

A lot of sleds out for a Tuesday. stop Steve jumped off his new sled and told us how much he loved the new sled. Jim and I were amazed that he even said he doesn't plan on making any changes to it. We both looked at each other and thought: "Yeah, sure. We'll see how long that lasts." It sure was fun though to ride with Steve without all the problems he had with the old machine. I sure was bushed after the 230 mile ride when we got back to Land O. We said our goodbyes at the trail intersection there since we were all heading for home in the morning.
All in all, it was another great trip with excellent trail conditions everywhere. May thanks to all the groomers. Here's hoping we all get to ride together a lot more in the future.
On the drive home, I stopped in Eagle River to take a picture of the ice castle there. The firemen of Eagle River build it out of ice cut from a nearby lake. They do it each year for the World Championship snowmobile races and the throngs of people that come in for the races.

2010 Skidoo Renegade 600 Etec Lucas--no snowmobiles there!
