There is nothing as strong, beautiful and important as the connection between humans. The connection of love, understanding, support, appreciation and admiration with people close to us is what makes up society and what makes this life worth living. The people with whom you share mutual love, respect, appreciation and admiration are those who become closest to you. Those people are the ones worth keeping with you forever. Those people are the ones with whom it is worth it to spend your time. We do not have the gift of infinite time. On the contrary, we have a very limited amount of time with the ones we love; therefore, we should spend all the time possible with them and make it a high quality experience so as to strengthen our bond and to make sure they ... read more

It is now October of 2010. I started this blog around this time 4 years ago. I'm in Seattle again, and I can't seem to sleep tonight. I guess I need to write another blog entry. Leaving Babylon Anyone who knew me in the summer of 2006 might feel a little uncomfortable with the walking contradiction I had become. Far from the SHARP traditionalist of high school days who wore button-down shirts and published radical literature, in '06 I was a business school grad working on shamelessly commercial films and--oh, the horror--commercials! I was getting wasted a lot and partying more often than I slept. I looked like a mess and started living in the back of my truck. Sure, people at UW, and people in the film business, and people at Crossfit, my land-lords, and ... read more

Today is Tuesday, I leave Thursday I have two days left in Seattle before I head out for 11 weeks in Costa Rica. I am very excited but a bit nervous at the same time. I wish I could have had a little more time here to see friends and family but I got a lot accomplished in 8 days so far. I need to start packing, do some laundry, and figure out what the heck is going to happen once I land in Libera on Friday morning. I have Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to get my feet wet and orient myself in Tamarindo before classes start on Monday. I'm so excited to begin studying Spanish again, me encanta espaƱol! While in Tamardino I will be studying at the: Coastal Spanish Institute Calle Real Playa Tamarindo, ... read more

I had a severe seizure on Sunday night, and the cause is yet unknown. I busted my mouth up bad and swallowed half a tooth. I'm going through tons of tests this week and trying to figure out what happened. I won't be able to drive for 6 months and will have to make some changes in what I do for work. In the meantime, I'm trying to recover some of the blogs that were hacked back in 2007, and add some new blogs to catch the story up to 2010. The first blog I recovered is called "Voted off the Island", dated March 27, 2007. I always loved Alex Haley, especially Roots and The Autobiography of Malcolm X. When I went to Greece in 2007, I wanted to track down my own roots. And I ... read more

Well, Laura (Champ) helped me create my travel blog today. We used a nickname generator to create the name "Elizabeth Havarti", which I do hope will stick. I just got an email from my host family, so I finally have a solid place to stay! In one week, one hour, fifty six minutes my plane will land at London Heathrow!!! :)... read more

Okay... Yep I am still alive and in the good ole US of A. Seattle to be exact... at least for the next few hours. Let me see. Last entry was from the shed I believe and that seems like a lifetime ago. I left Tauranga for Wellington on the 13th of Jan. Well at least I tried to leave. I boarded this propeller driven Air New Zealand plane which seemed fine. We took off and about 20 minutes into the flight the stewardess came to my seat and asked if she could look out of the window. I assured her that clouds are quite common at 20,000 feet at which she mocked admirably. When she left I glanced at the hydrolic fluid seeping from the engine cowling and chuckled admirably to myself. Then shit it. ... read more

I watched last night's Colbert Report as he made jokes about www.conservapedia.com and the Conservapedia bible translation project. Visiting the site to add my own conservative re-translation of the Bible, I found it blocked from accepting new contributors. Who knows if this is related to Colbert's challenge to viewers to "write me into the Bible", or if it's just regular policy at this heavily-administrated, heavily bureaucratic corner of the web. I couldn't add my Bible translation there, but I could try to learn where these guys are coming from. I agree with the Conservapedia folks on a couple of crucial points: modern English-speakers do have problems understanding the original language of the Bible, and we have trouble using our own language to house the true meaning of the Bible. Much of what we are able to ... read more

Moses Lake WA to Seattle Final day of traveling was only half day! We visited Blue Heron Park in Moses Lake with the hounds. The landscape is desert-like, but on a nice man-made lake. I was surprised that eastern Washington state is so dry! We drove through mid-Washington, crossed the Columbia River, stopped for pics of the view, and then drove past many farms and field of hay, onions, wheat, potato, and alfalfa. We took the Snoqualmie Pass, and the landscape changed to tall, tall pine trees. Then we started to see the signs for Seattle (nickname "Emerald City") and we crossed the bridge over Lake Washington. We were finally here! We arrived at our new house at about noon. It is a 1931 Tudor house, with a charming fenced backyard, and a nicely updated kitchen. ... read more
