Hey everyone! After a manic two weeks of 'camping' I'm now back in Seattle, at the Hilton no less! I can't really call it a camping trip as we only camped for 4 out of a possible 13 nights due to the horrendous weather, but to be honest that suited me just fine! I'm going to try to upload a few photos but the internet here is sadly lacking considering the reputation of the hotel! Ahhh! I've just uploaded a few photos but I have no time to actually write a blog now as I'm due to meet up with some of the girls from the tour in 5 minutes! Oh well... hopefully the photos will do for now. I'll write a proper update soon, promise! Lots of love, Streets. PS - Sam is now in ... read more

It is now about 8 pm Seattle time and I got up to start this trip home at 6 am from Rome. Adding in the 9 hour time change, I've been on the road, in the sky, or in some way or other making my way west for the past 24 hours, but since my math brain is not functioning too well, that may not be accurate. If you are reading this, you are more awake than I am, so you do the math. I just know it is a long time when you can watch most of three movies and still not be at your "final destination" and the airlines like to call, home. I'm throuwing in three final photos that reflect my last day in Rome. Friends were the high point of my trip, ... read more

February 8, 2012.....after 16 months of planning the day finally dawned…well actually the sun was many hours from rising when I left home on Wednesday to meet up with my travel companion. Michelle and I hopped on the Bainbridge Island Ferry to Seattle, towing our luggage and backpacks, and then sped easily to SeaTac in a taxi van. 3.5 hours later we finally left Seattle and started on our way.... Of course the flight delay gave us time for one...or maybe that was two ?? Bloody Mary's.... so the gate changes and boarding may be a bit fuzzy. With the late start, we got to Chicago just in time to traverse the terminal and get right onto our next flight from ORD to London Heathrow. Hungry now (those green bean garnishes don't stay with you for ... read more

Sooo yesterday when we checked our flight information it said our plane was coming at 3:30 instead of 4:30 which was the scheduled time. Matt was not doing very well this morning so I was kinda all over the place trying to get last minute stuff together by myself. We wanted to say bye to Brenda and Brittany before we left so we were rushing to make it to them on time. Brittany was suppose to leave for school at 11am this morning so at about 10:53 we ran out of the house and got going. When we pulled up to Brittanys, Brenda was already walking to her car. We made it just in time!! Then we went to my parents to get my dad and say bye to my momma:( Then we were on the ... read more

Here I am again in Sea-Tac about to take off. I am gaining a slight bit of bitterness towards this airport since I don't really want to be here right now. Usually, it's a pretty exciting place but today kind of snuck up on me. I am about to board a 9 hour flight to London, hang out there for about 6 hours, and then board another flight to Istanbul. For a year. Yikes! I just enjoyed a fish sandwich in the airport, which is a pretty random choice for me, and may sound gross, but with my lack of an appetite the last few days, I bought it immediately once I realized it sounded good. And it was delicious. As much as I love traveling, I really do not enjoy travEL. The process of getting ... read more

Well, we caught a ride to the Bainbidge Island ferry with our friend Lorrie & her friend Barbara. We all walked on the ferry luggage and all. When we got to Colemna dock, we hugged and parted company -- Lorrie and Barbara were off to a downtown Seattle adventure and Gary & I took a taxi to the 3rd & James transit location. We're off on our adventure... So, we got to the Sound Transit underground station and found that not only were the two ticket machines BROKEN but the elevator down to meet the train was out of commission. We hauled our luggage down two flights of stairs and found someone to let us know that if we went to the end of the platform and back up there would be a ticket station there. ... read more

My alarm goes off and it feels like I had just fallen asleep. Oh wait, that's because I did only just fall asleep three hours ago. Since I had spent all night packing and re-packing and catching up on emails to friends and family, I had a hard time falling asleep right away. Part of the reason I had such difficulty sleeping was the fact I generally think too much, especially when I have a big day awaiting me such as leaving Madrid and not wanting to. I knew that days ago, however it didn't really sink in until now that I didn't want to leave. I wasn't ready yet, it seemed like I had just gotten here and at the same time it felt like I'd been there for weeks and was just now getting ... read more

Hi everyone! This is my first blog ever so don’t make fun! Here’s a little about my upcoming trip: I am about to embark on an adventure to Europe and Asia. First Pau, France for five weeks to study French, the San Sebastian, Spain to play, I mean study Spanish for five more weeks, then India, with a month of uncertainty in between! I am phoneless, all alone (with nothing except my backpack and netbook), and incredibly exciteous (100% excited and nervous at the same exact time). I’m sitting in Spokane, only 27 hours away from Paris, which is surprisingly intimidating. I haven’t spoken French in a while, and I’ve never traveled all by myself. We’ll see how this goes! I have decided to give couchsurfers a try. Some of my friends have tried it, and ... read more

I think I (Kevyn) may have cursed it for us when, after a particularly harrowing cab ride to the airport in blowing snow, windshield wipers operating at .4%, and a scary driver ("geez, you can't even tell where you are....we could be on a totally different street, not even headed to the airport!"), I said , "Well, I hope this isn't setting the tone for the whole day." ***DING DING DING! You win! You're right! Your whole day is going to be a bit of a mess!*** So, we get to the gate and board the plane on time. At this point, we are exhausted (got up at 4am) but hopeful that it will be smooth from here on out. They announce that we will have to de-ice twice as there is a lot of snow ... read more
