TJ picked me up around noon today for the drive to Everett. Stopped off at Safeway so he could pick up a card and some flowers for his mom on her birthday. And I picked up a salad. Drove to Forest Park and we hung out there trying to avoid the bees which wanted my salad. Then we drove over to the theater and I hung out at starbucks while he got ready for the show. Show was great. He had been happy thinking I was seeing Odd Couple for the first time, but I told him I'd seen it with Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick. Their Oscar was fantastic and most of the rest of the ensemble was also great. I didn't love their Felix, but he wasn't bad. They threw in a mention of ... read more

long day today.... TJ picked me up at ten (and today he was on time, and would have been early if his GPS hadn't lied to him), then we drove up to Snoqualmie Falls. very pretty. drove to Fremont to see the troll under the Fremont Bridge. stopped at his parents' place to get a national forest tag of some kind, then quick lunch at quiznos. drove to and through national forest land, stopping along the way at one of the fish locks/gateways and at one of the picnic areas in the forest land. drove back to Everett for dinner, then he drove me back to the hotel. tomorrow i'm seeing Odd Couple.... read more

As some people may know, but others do not, one of this year's vacations is taking me to Alaska. However, since I couldn't fly direct from NY to Anchorage, I decided to stop for a few days in Seattle and see my friend TJ. Had a nice flight yesterday, not too much rough air, and touched down pretty much on time. Met three nice ladies who were heading out on a cruise from Seattle to Alaska and who were staying at the same hotel as me. Caught the shuttle from the airport to the hotel and after a yummy dinner at the hotel restaurant, turned in early. Had a busy day today. walked to the airport, caught the light rail into downtown seattle, about a 45 minute ride, some pretty scenery. TJ was late due to ... read more

The day is finally here and we are heading to the airport waiting where I will depart for NYC and JFK Airport. At this point I want to share the prayer Pastor Ruud used in my sending at St. Marks. Weighed my pack this morning - trained with it at 25 - weighing in at 26. Oh well I will be losing things along the way I guess. Lord, you called your servant Abraham and watched over him during all his wanderings; You guided your people, Abraham's children, across the desert; I pray for You to protect me as I make my pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. Be for me a companion on the journey, a direction at the crossroads, a strength in my fatigue, a shelter in danger, a welcoming hostel on my travels, a ... read more

Yes - this is goodbye - but I am sure I will be back one day - there is so much I have enjoyed here- the magnificent scenery, fabulous cities, great food and wonderful people. These last couple of days Bob and Marti have worked hard to entertain me and make sure I havent mssed too much of the local highlights and of course as always with these hospitality swaps I get included in the family ..so I got to meet Bob's mum - a wonderful old lady of 98 who lives in a really nice retirement home in the city...and she goes to the gym 5 times a week!! Always great to hear the family stories. Sun has shone on me these last few days - I was taken out the the family home on ... read more

12.00 I had forgotten that the flight from Bozeman to SeaTac was two hours. For some reason, I thought it was shorter. Unusually, I didn’t—couldn’t sleep. Instead I read. And looked out the window. I love morning flights. As the plane took off, I was struck by how pretty the lights of Bozeman are, though not quite as pretty as the stars. If you haven’t seen the stars in western Montana… well, my heart aches a bit at the thought of not seeing them for four months. After the plane leveled out and the flight attendants gave me my surprisingly good coffee and cookie—that I dipped into the coffee until it was soft enough to dissolve on my tongue, but not soft enough to break into the cup, like my mom does—I looked ... read more

A good sleep as always at the Fairmont, we got moving downstairs looking for some breakfast. The hotel is located at the far end of the airport, so it allowed us to check out all the departure board. We started with the US, then international, and finally domestic so Penny could get a feel for where she might be going. I also tipped her off that it would be early afternoon that we would be leaving. Once breakfast was eaten, we headed back to the room and packed up our things, then down to the departure level. We were standing at the bottom of the escalator on the airport floor and I asked Penny, which direction are we going. She went forward to International and I went left to the Alaskan Airlines counter. She admitted to ... read more

We got an early start, it was a little chilly, but the skies were mostly clear, so it looked to be another great day. We rode up rt. 5 toward Seattle, with a little detour through downtown Portland because I took a wrong turn. Back on the highway, traffic was light and there were very few trucks. We stopped at Mt. St. Helens State Park, but the clouds obscured the mountain, so we didn’t ride the 27 miles up too the lookout point. We continued up rt. 5, Bill and Rick turned off at Mt. Rainer and I continued on to Seattle. I have been looking forward to seeing Seattle again ever since we decided to take this trip. I was curious to see how much it had changed since Microsoft came to town. Traffic was ... read more

Day 8 - Sept 7, 2012 - return home Today is the end of our cruise, sad to say, and its back to Orlando we go. We choose to use the RCI bus transportation (27.00 pp). The debarkation was very easy because they divided up the areas and there was plenty of seating for everyone. They did a good job with this process. In the future I would not use the RCI shuttle because they drop you off pretty far from the terminal. I felt so bad for the elderly guests who choose this transportation. For the price they should have delivered us closer to our airline terminal. It was easier for us to board the bus at the pier because we had a porter who brought us up to the front with our luggage and ... read more
