On Sunday night, we were invited to eat dinner with Bruce and Bev Anderson before we leave on our trip. They have a very beautiful house on the banks of a lake. Nicole and Ethan swam and rode in the Canoe. Ethan used to be Nicole's youth paster when we first began attending Timberline Baptist Church. For dinner we had Bison burgers. This was the first time I have ever eaten Bison and it was excellent. To top everything off after swimming, Bev served us fresh Spooner Strawberries, Ice Cream and whipped cream. We have a very good time with the Andersons and Ethan. ... read more

Got a late start due to weather. We left around noon and headed South on I-5 in a light mist that soon disappeard as we headed into Oregon. First stop was Multnomah Falls as Doug had never been there. East of John Day Dam was a big beautiful DAHL sheep right along side the road and above him was a whole herd of them and about 200 feet down the Highway were two more and no camera. Of course it was in the trunk of the bike. First night was at a motel in Pendleton, Oregon, NO RAIN but chilly down in the 40s and high 50s. Day 2 much better sunny and around 70. We stopped to get gas and saw this sign "Red Neck Cafe" Doug said we gotta get a picture of that ... read more

Judy overnighted on the 17th with former debating buddy Vicky Yehl. You might have seen Vicky on a recent segment of the Discovery Channel, all about mining for diamonds in the Canadian north! She gave Judy the backstory about which apparently hardworking site was about to go bust, and which guys were competent geologists and which ones weren't... the two of them had a lively visit, brunched with Vicky's beau and fellow geologist Derek, and Judy climbed back aboard the Cantrail bus for a five hour jaunt (90 minutes of which was spent waiting to clear the border with all the other tour buses) back south to Seattle, a kind pickup by friend Moya (who fought her way through post-Mariner traffic to the Amtrak depot to reunite Judy with the rest of her luggage), and a ... read more

Jackie Ashley, Ruth's cousin Margie's neighbor, included Judy on a walk with her kids and Margie's grandkids to feed goats and chickens that live on a nearby campground. When SHE heard what had brought Ruth and Judy to town, she said, "You should see what my husband Clayton has in the garage -- it's his second wife!" Um, okay... So, here she is... Clayton finished building the helicycle in 2005, and modified it from a kit designed by B.J. Schramm, founder of Rotorway, to sport a 100 horsepower turbine engine. ... read more

Spring can come at anytime, I am sitting here looking out onto our deck to the snow and ice storm that we have been having all day. We are being told to expect up to 2 inches of snow tonight. My goodness this is the middle of April. Well, it will be just a little under two months and we will be starting our trip to the East Coast on our beautiful 2006 GL1800 Gold Wing. Hopefully the weather will be fantastic and that we can stay away from the tornadoes. We will be leaving in the middle of the week heading South to Vancouver to pick up Doug's little sister, Renee and her husband Rick on their Harley. It will be so much fun to have them traveling with us. We will go on in ... read more
