The last two weeks for me have been a rollercoaster of emotions. major ups and major downs... at times i questioned who i am, and definitly why i am here...the crazy thing was the campers with their incredible hearts were the ones to help me out of my down and lonely times.the campers here have obvious physical and mental requirements and difficulties and they remind me so much of CanTeeners, forever with a smile on thier face no matter how hard life can be. its something i truly respect and admire and fully helps put life into perspective. theres nothing like being tickled to death by my favourite girls tina, bree and mary-pat when im feeling down. and they have the best way with people...always saying "i like you" it just makes you feel so good ... read more

Hello! Holla! I started writing this blog a few days ago, with recounts of time on the plane and travel details and so much information. But then something amazing happened. So here I was on the way back from getting my social security number in Rutland (45mins from camp). We were traveling in the camp van with the best view of mountains and forests, the most intense heat but a beautiful day. I was playing "The Black Seeds" off my phone to a man called Sergiu from Istanbul, and as I was singing and he was tapping along to the beat I had the greatest epiphany.... The world is an amazing place... it is filled with the most incredible people, incredible kindness and care, but most importantly love is a universal language. Every time I talk ... read more

Mom had to work today, which worked out perfectly since my copy of Deathly Hallows was due to be delivered- surprisingly it arrived at 10 am! SPOILER ALERT So I settled into the porch with a case of Killian's and my book. During the 10 hours it took me to read the 784 pages I managed to eat a tray of sushi and a fluffernutter sandwich, and get a really random sunburn on my right arm and inside left calf. I did take a 2 hour break to walk to downtown for dinner with my mom. The brie and apple ravioli was so good! Love that North Boston influence. Rutland is definitely a weird old mill town, but quiet for the most part. I love all the old Victorians! And Ben and Jerry's ice cream :) ... read more

Just a quick post before we get on the road again - we've made it safely thus far, traveling close to 1,000 miles and seeing Niagara Falls and Howe Caverns. We're now headed farther north in Vermont to go to Ben & Jerry's (!) Factory for a tour, then eventually over to Mount Washington, and will end the night at Bangor, Maine. We'll have internet access again when we reach our hotel in Maine, so we'll have more time to add posts. 'Til then!... read more

We were in the mood for a change from soft, white sand to fresh, powdery snow. The Pico/Killington area of Vermont is a doable day trip from Ballston Lake. We met our daughter, Beth, and her family in the lower lodge at Pico - the part of the lodge which allows picnics . The weather was beautiful - no wind; with snow flurries continuing all day long making condidtions perfect - fresh powder over nicely groomed trails. Pico seems more suitable for family skiing than Killington; especially when little ones are involved. Beth and Chris are using harnesses to keep the boys in control and let them develop the hang of skiing. They are doing quite well. Casey (age 5) has learned how to turn and stop. Jack (age 3 and a half) has discovered that ... read more

I slept great thanks to the fact that I was so tired after all the walking yesterday. There was no sign of Locker Room Lady as I checked out. I wondered if I would dare catch the subway or catch a cab downtown. I had been in NYC and hadn’t yet caught an iconic yellow cab, so now was the time. Instead, a black luxury Chrysler pulls up and the driver rolls down the window. He says something in Spanish, which I don’t understand. “Que? Me no habla Espanol!” “You don’ speek English? Oh sorry man, where you going, I’ll take you” Instead, I got a hire car, which has the same function as a cab, but it’s a flat fee wherever you go. I couldn’t tell if he was legit or not but he ... read more
