Our close knit family of Winter Texans has started migrating North. We headed to the Hill Country near San Antonio. Although the landscape was painted with blooming Blue Bonnets, a five-day rain made us decide to move towards Dallas. But not before visiting San Antonio. We went to the IMAX (A Fight For Freedom, story of the Alamo) across from the Alamo and lunched at the River Walk. At Lake Whitney we had great Pickleball with more friendly folks. After many days of stalking them, I finally got a picture of the Road Runners! Beep-beep. In Dallas, we had an absolutely wonderful visit with son Mike and his wife Donna. They gave us a drive-by tour of nearby Southern Methodist College after a sinful brunch at Breadwinners. People in Texas seem to have solid values and ... read more

This morning they called all of the mothers to come stand in front of the formation. The First Sergeant said, "All women who have punched out a kid come front and center." A little unconventional statement but I thought that there was duality in that statement. Some women who have had childern have probably punched them out at one time or another. Here is a picture of all of the moms in A Company.... read more

I was searching for a good medium to share all of my travels this upcoming year. I think that this will do quite nicely. I should have started this last year when I began training in South Dakota. Since June of last year I have trained for this deployment in the Black Hills of South Dakota, twice in Sparta - Wisconsin, Augusta - Georgia, Monterrey - California, and Gatesville - Texas. The title of this entry is the "Greatest Little POW Camp in Texas." Why? Well, for the last month I have been stationed in North Fort Hood, Texas. North Fort Hood is where the Army housed German POWs during WWII. Most of the buildings that the POWs lived in and, the fields that they farmed are still here. Problem is most buildings have not been ... read more

I have told many of you about all of the crazy weather in Texas. We have had 2 tornadoes and one hail storm. I took pictures of this super cell today. Super cells form tornadoes. This system caused tornadoes a few counties away. ... read more

I had written and posted an entry here earlier. Thing is, it was too much. Too much of myself. Retracted. The longer I seem to go along the road to truth, the more I see what issue make me human and screwed up inside. And more forcefully, I see i what and how major change is required. And its a road i travel alone. But a road i no longer avoid. Despite my vagueness, i'd like to thankyou for reading my various chronicals. Hope you enjoyed my travels to the beautiful country south of the equator. I wish you all the very best. And now i say goodbye. I will see you out there. Go see Australia. D.D. Smith. ... read more

There's a variety of dimensions to us all. At least i think. At least there is with me. With different people. We act differently. Let go of our guard. Allowing us to be free. This is where she is with me. But i'm not. There are moments when you can let go. But fear if you let it all out. Well. two things. You will show your unbridled ugliness. Or. More relevantly. What you fear is that apart of yourself, this guard, will be exposed and an aspect of your soul will be bound. perhaps permanently. What if this part of you, wants to be known? What if this part of you, is what brings out the best side of you? what if you want to feel like this? What if you want to be this ... read more

full circle. I'm back. I stayed up the night previous departure. hoping for sleep on the long ride out. It was largely unremarkable. watched a few in flight movies, had a few drinks. Sleep? no sleep. been up for 2 days now. a power nap here and there, but so uncomfortable. i yearn for positive verticle slumber tonight. My parents saw me off. It was emotional. Mum lingered for ages. Still treats me like i'm 10 years old. which i find kinda sweet actually. I get in and red picks me up. We come pilgrimage back after a brief stint in carrolton. We head off to the pub after running into pimpin' at the store. Jenny calls me earlier, but we both know i won't be back for a nightly reunion with the fam. Crickets is ... read more

It is now T-minus 22 hours. After having a rather interesting interview in with the Korean Consulate in Houston (had a conversation en Espanol with the Korean guy who interviewed me), I will be departing from DFW at 7:54 in the am tomorrow morn. After a stopover in Minneapolis and one in Tokyo, I will arrive in Incheon, South Korea around 9:00 in the pm on Saturday night. It will be a ride, but after the 25 hour bus rides over El Espino del Diablo, comin back from Mazatlan, I don't think it will be too bad. I heard from a reliable source that international flights have free drinks, so I got that goin for me. I have around $600 USD to take over there. Hopefully it will be possible to survive for a month in ... read more

Nothing to break the North wind blowing through Texas but tumbleweed. The weather here is cooler than last winter in Florida but the excitement of visiting friends and family makes up for it. Visited with Mike and Donna in Dallas. Somehow left without a picture. Bummer. Spent Christmas with childhood best friend Nancy and her husband Ron and family in Houston. One of our best holidays! We took time to visit NASA-Houston. New Year's Eve we visited Lucy (first upright humanoid) at Houston's Natural History Museum. Made our bones feel down right young! We're headed to cowboy country, Gunsmoke, TX!... read more

The Texas Ranger and Museum is unbelievable. It is filled with bronze statues, paintings, exhibits of individual rangers provided by the families. They have a video which chronicles the history of the rangers from inception to today. I took more pictures than can be preserved here. I highly recommend visiting if visiting or passing through Waco. It is just of I-35. ... read more
