Our time in Fredericksburg had swiftly come to an end. The final morning began with a slow drive through the flower-covered hills and roadsides of the Willow City Loop which were fairly bursting with Texas Bluebonnets and red Indian Paintbrush with lots of other flowers making an appearance in this riot of color which this area is well known for. I could have stayed a bit longer in the Texas Hill Country as there was a lot more to see -- a few good museums, historic buildings, and some popular parks with interesting features including the Enchanted Rock State Natural Area and Old Tunnel State Park to name only two. These are located within the city limits or a short distance from Fredericksburg. The remainder of our morning schedule called for driving on to the city ... read more

Today we drove down to Waco, Texas to meet my sister and my niece for lunch. We were amazed by the sprawling network of roads and suburbs in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and relieved to reach the quieter town of Waco. We enjoyed a wonderful variety of tacos and street corn at Torchy’s (a Texas chain that got its start as an Austin food truck). After lunch we too a walk in Cameron Park along the Brazos river. On our way back to Frisco, we stopped in West, Texas for authentic Czech kolaches at the Czech Stop/Little Czech Bakery. The best part of the day was just the chance to spend time with family. So glad we could make this trip to Texas!... read more

I couldn't leave Texas without visiting Chip and Joanna Gaines' Magnolia Market. I am a huge fan of their show on HGTV called Fixer Upper and I really like the priorities that they portray on their show. I enjoy Joanna's style of decorating so it was really fun to visit the store at the Silos. The bakery also has really good muffins and cinnamon rolls. While I was downtown Waco I also visited the Dr. Pepper Museum since Waco was the birthplace of The Pepper. It was interesting as it is housed in the original bottling plant which is next door to the newer bottling plant. The Texas Rangers Hall of Fame is also located in Waco. It shows the history of the Rangers, how they were formed after the civil war and the way their ... read more

So far it has been a great trip to Waco. The drive down was great as there was not much traffic at all. I have visited with Mary and Daniel about everything happening at the office and everything seems to be going very well. They are Rock Stars of our Waco office.... read more

Our last stop before making it back to San Antonio was Waco, Texas. We both had something there we wanted to see. I wanted to see the Magnolia Market from the HGTV show Fixer Upper. Chip and Joanna Gaines live in the area and renovate older homes. Chip is the construction guy and Joanna is the designer / decorator. The Magnolia Market is where Joanna has her store and staging facility. Joe's grandfather was a Texas Ranger so he wanted to see the Texas Ranger Museum. The Rangers are such an important part of Texas history and they continue to serve the state today. Our last stop was the Dr. Pepper museum. Pretty cool stuff that brought back memories for both of us.... read more

Writing this blog after the fact but this was a very important site. I first need to give shout outs to a few people. First is Heather. She was my on site boss and she was fantastic. Really great manager and she has a great team at the crew desk. I was there to cover for one of the managers, he was going on a well deserved vacation. The night manager was going to cover his shift so I was there to learn shift management for a week then spend the next week and a half covering the night shift. For night shift I had to get there at 9:15pm and I got off at 7:45am. Those of u that know me, u know I am NOT a night owl at all. That, was until I ... read more

In the early 1970’s I was a police officer in Waco, Texas. I had lived in Waco almost all my life and had seen some pretty terrible weather in those years but was about to see the worst weather I had ever seen. One day while working the swing shift I had a feeling that this shift was not going to be like any other I had worked. We had rain the day and night before and were just starting to get what seemed to be yet another terrible thunderstorm. The forecast was calling for more rain, wind and flooding. I was working the area near what was called Lake Air out near the Heart of Texas Fair Grounds and my old High School. The wind picked up and was blowing so hard that most of ... read more

Waco came in the spotlight of the news media in the early nineties when David Koresh and his Branch Davidians had a bloody shootout with law enforcement just outside of the city in which both sides experienced loss of life. Regardless, there are three reasons why you should visit Waco. The first one is Cameron Park Zoo, which is located adjacent to the Brazos River. Among its features are a 35,000 gallon freshwater aquarium and a 50,000 gallon saltwater coral reef aquarium. The place also contains a snake exhibit as well as an assortment of birds and mammals. The next one is the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum. The Rangers have a heritage that began with the earliest settlements in Texas and have been compared to other world-famous law enforcement agencies. They are part ... read more
