I am currently in an RV Camp north of Waco, TX. One of the main reasons for staying is that I wanted to visit the site of the Branch Dividians' confrontation with the ATF and the FBI in which about 88 people died. There isn't much there now, but I did take some pictures. It is not easy to find. You have to travel north on 84 to the Boys Ranch Road which only turns right. You take it to the end (a T) Old Mexica Road. Turn left and travel to the first road on the right (Doubled E EE Ranch Road). Travel about 2 or 3 miles and it is on the left. Worth seeing. Wandering re-establishes the original harmony which once existed between man and the universe.- Anatole France It's Thursday, August 9th and I'm sitting at home wondering what else I need to bring on my little adventure. I bought a tripod for my camera today along with another Spanish verb book and a cool leather travel journal. Since the latest loss of entries on this website, I feel that writing them down on paper might be a good idea. So many emotions are running through me at this moment...I'm sure you can guess all of them if you try. Anxiety, excitement, nervousness, elation, etc. I've been to Venezuela before (though not to this part) and so it's not my destination that makes me anxious but is the length of my stay. I've never been away from "home" ... read more

Thursday, July 12, 2007 This entry does not deal with any real traveling or anything. It's mainly an entry to practice using the site and catch any readers up on how I've gotten to be where I am and where I plan on heading. I'm currently sitting in my new home here in Waco, TX. It's not really my home, but my mothers. After a year of teaching history to junior high kids, I decided not to "reinlist" for another year and opted instead to leave my little apartment in Pineville, LA and move in with Mama. Waco is a fairly nice town...a lot bigger than what I'm used to. There are lots of places to go eat and lots of nice parks to go walk around and take pictures. When I was in college, I ... read more

Waco, TX day trip! Tony and I headed out one early morning for a quick lazy day trip to Waco, home of the Dr. Pepper Museum. There was a time where all I ever drank was Dr. Pepper. So much that on those chance occasions when I would drink something else my mind still thought it was Dr. Pepper and I'd continue drinking oblivious to anything else. Waco is a small town famous for many things. Its home to Baylor University, home to the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame, the Texas Sports Hall of Fame, and the Dr. Pepper Museum. The name Waco comes from the Spanish word, "Hueco" pronounced "Way-co" by English speaking settlers. It means "hollowed out" or so, and it is in reference to the homes of the native tribes that lived nearby. ... read more

31 degrees this morning….Farenheit not Celsius. -1 in other words and raining. It is a little cold here this morning. I slept in, a little bit by accident but I didn’t have any appointments this morning so it is fine and I feel good. I missed breakfast though at the hotel so I had to get some on campus. Food here is to say the least a tricky thing for me. There is intrinsically a great deal of Fat involved. So I’ve been eating waffles, fruit and coffee with fake creamer (therefore no milk….some advantages for the lactose intolerant like me). The breakfast hostess Vivian is this amazing woman. Her husband was in special forces and her daughter just finished law school at University of Texas. Her grandmothers house used to be where Truett Seminary now ... read more

I walked around the campus this morning listening to the bells of Pat Neff hall. They were playing a Christmas carol i don't remember the name of. I saw a really lively squirrel on my travels. morning tea at ABL I made my way to Armstrong Browning Library this morning. One of two places that Simon Haines told me i had to visit. The other was the bear enclosure that i saw yesterday. ABL is the most spectacular building on campus. Very, well, magnifcent. But it isn't very old so after a while it occurs to you that everything is a little tacky. Like the 23 1/2 carot gold ceiling in the chapel. I met the support staff, the librarians and some of the graduate students. Enjoyed hot apple cider. This library would be an amazing ... read more

0650h: I'm excited, wired, nervous and tired all at the same time. I am listening to a radio station called Lonestar 94 Country. A local texan country radio station. It's definitely an insight into loval culture. Very lighthearted. "Every day you're walking around is a day more before you die...." whatever that means. It was really cold outside - about 0. The day My first impression of the university was the wide buvelard streets lined with footpaths, trees, and buildings. Large stretches of grass ... though the grass is a little white because it has been so cold. The building are all Brick and georgian in style. Very large and impressive. Quite beautiful. The people at the hotel had told me it was a long way to the building where i was to have my first ... read more

I love the international dateline. It is the closest thing to time travel that i will ever know. Left Tamworth a few hours late courtesy of Qantas. Sometimes you think it will be the BIG things that will trip you up but i almost didn't make it off the ground at the first hurdle. Apparently being on an international flight isn't any kind of priority giving reason - a Qantas connecting flight to Melbourne (of which they are 50 a day) is of greater import. It worked out and i managed not to be stressed. But there was one moment where i had visions of spending the whole summer in Tamworth (not a bad thing in itself but it is not exactly Christmas in England or hanging out in Cincinnati) But therein lay the story of ... read more
