Who wants to be at the beach when you can have all of this?!?! Although I will admit that I do have small, green streaks of jealousy that bubble up with each email you guys send reminding us that you're all in shorts, at the beach and that it is 80 degrees - I do have to say we are really having a blast. And so what if I secretly sneak in the bathroom and sniff our old sun tan oil?! The weather makes it feel like Christmas is coming. And much to Tom's dismay, I'm sure; I have sung a Christmas tune or two while hiking up these frozen trails. I have never been in much snow myself. Several years ago Tom and I were in NYC and there was some snow on the ground, ... read more

Hello Everyone! And to all those viewing that we don't know, thanks for checking us out. We are from St. Pete, FL and we are on a road trip across the USA with no real plan. Just us, the dog and the cat all living in 34 feet of Winnebago, so we're sure to amuse! Well here we are at McKinney Falls here in Texas. 36.3 degrees in case you're wondering. We're expecting freezing temps tomorrow through Tuesday with freezing rain. They say it's gonna be the worst in 20 years! Don't worry, we are slurping down some beef stew Tom put together in the crock-pot earlier, and staying warm. Needless to say we are going to stay here for another day or two until the winter ice storm has passed and then move on to ... read more

I-10 leaving NOLA is like a roller coaster. There is also a lot of construction. I stopped by Congress Bridge to see if I would be able to see their famous bats take flight for the night, but much to my dismay, I found out that most of the bats had already headed to Mexico for the winter. I did see the rotating bat sculpture, which, beside the hostel, is about all I saw of Austin. I arrived at the hostel around 6 pm. $19 plus $1 for wi-fi. While I was cooking my dinner (Pad Thai) in the hostel I spotted 3 of the 5 Travel Journalists from “5 Takes USA” on the Travel Channel. Before I left home I watched several of the episodes but I missed the one (Memphis) right before Austin, so ... read more

11/25/2006 12:38 AM The road to Austin - endless urban sprawl from Dallas to Austin seemed like one big suburb with a frontage road hundreds of miles long. We told Edward’s sister, Sarah, that we would be arriving at her house at 5:00 pm but we made good time and arrived at 3:30. We were welcomed by 78 degrees, Sarah, and an apartment filled with the traditional smells of Thanksgiving. A few introductions and Brian and Martin we’re off to the store around the corner to buy beer. For a couple of hours we sat around on the front porch as the turkey finished cooking. As we sat down to eat, a few of Sarah’s friends came and joined us. A couple from Turkey that hadn’t yet been in the United States for a Thanksgiving brought ... read more

Well, not much is going on here in Central Texas. Most of the time I'm home and looking for a job which takes some time every day and of course I want to save my money. I also study a lot to keep up-to-date with my knowledge and even to learn some new things. There is so much in IT you don't know yet but employers want you to master. So live isn't boring after all but unfortunately for you -- the peeping Tom -- there are no fancy stories to tell. Nevertheless, I think I owe you an update on the weather in Central Texas for the past three months. I guess you wouldn't be surprised when I tell you that it is still nice and warm here at the end of October. Let's say ... read more

Well, everyone, we've been home a week now. Suitcases unpacked, laundry done...finally back on a normal sleeping schedule. We had some amazing adventures, but it sure is nice to be home. As a final entry, we would like to give you our highs and lows for each country we visited. Moldova Best: No contest, the orphans!! Even now we still say "We miss the orphans" or "We love the orphans." We are working on a way to continue our relationship with the orphanage, because we can't forget these kids. Distant Second Best: Fruit and Vegetables -- Moldova cannot be beat in terms of the plentiful and delicious fruits and vegetables. Worst: (Adrienne:) Cold showers. It was horrible to come home dusty, dirty, and sweaty, and have no hot water to help clean off. (Wendy:) Crowds. Everywhere ... read more

Thanks to work, I finally got a chance to really explore Austin. I'd been there a couple of times before but had never ventured very far from downtown. I found out that the rest of the city is fantastic. I also found some great resturants. The three I would recommend are Truby's (Tex-Mex), Kerby's Place (Organic food cafe) and Scholz's Garten (German food). The only minus about the place is its traffic. Really quite terrible. ... read more

It's now just past five in the afternoon, storm clouds look to be rolling in, and this is my last full day in my new house before the trip. I have been here for a week and it is the first time I have gotten to sleep in my place. Beth and I have moved everything we want to keep out of our apartment and here to Texas so going back to Redondo Beach tomorrow is not going to be fun. Just an air mattress in a messy empty apartment to look forward to until the wedding Sept. 9. This is really the final countdown. We leave for Cuzco Peru on Sept. 13th. So there we have it, my first TravelBlog entry. Pretty short. They'll get better I'm sure. This trip is going to be crazy. ... read more
