After some wonderful shopping and days lounging by the super natural thermal pool, we left San Miguel with a bang. Our last night, Josh and a gang of 3 others really put on a spread of fajitas, homemade tortillas, wonderful local fruit and a variety of yummy drinks. We had a great week in San Miguel and would like to extend a special thanks to Tom, Proferia, Tony, Triny and Maria for all of their hospitality. We had an amazing time because of you!! After leaving San Miguel, we got on the freeway heading due North. Our sights were minimal because the insurance was due to run out the 16th. We did stay the night in Saltillo about 250km from the border. Besides the amazing amount of pigeons in their main square (one almost took a ... read more

As I continue the search for Mr. Right the idea that he might be wearing a cowboy hat is quite appealing. And riding a bull, even more appealing. So when I stepped into Dallas airport full of anticipation, I was quickly jolted back to my senses; transport, accommodation and food. Maybe when I grow up I'll plan these things ahead of time, but who really wants to grow up that fast? I scoured the books, the notice boards, anybody wearing a backpack for a lead towards a hostel in town. It seems that people are still influenced by the tv Dallas mansions from the 80's as there certainly wasn't a hostel to be found. Most people just stared at me and commented how I sounded like a combo of the Queen and Keira Knightly. Others tried ... read more

We are leaving in 8 days, and I still have so much preparation. I have managed to locate 4 large suitcases, and 2 small ones. We are allowed 2 check-ins, and one carry on, so it will work out fine. We will actually only pack one suitcase, and the rest will remain empty (until our return of course :) I have made copies of all our paperwork, and registered with the Embassy in Thailand. Marilyn and Frank have already arrived in Bangkok. We are supposed to meet at our hotel, and get the wherabouts of them from the front desk clerk. It seems like such a primitive form of communication, but we are limited without our cell phones. Troy is wanting to extend our stay in Hong Kong by a day, but I don't know how ... read more

All that I can get done before I leave has been done. The taxi should be here in 15 minutes, and I'll be on my way to New York - New York without it's public transportation working. I can't imagine what that will be like.... read more

Grrrissssmas!!!! Every Christmas Austin has the Trail of Lights at Zilker Park. Its a fun fest filled with fun, lights, people, Christmas, and funnel cake. The trees are decorated and companies sponsor little holiday scenes for you to walk through. By far my favorite section is the entry way with its tunnel of Christmas lights. After that I must say I enjoy the warm funnel cake sprinkled with powdered sugar. If it were bitterly cold as it was the first year I visited then the fire pit with its huge logs burning would be a favorite of mine too. But this is Texas. Winter sometimes lasts for two weeks. The Tree of Lights is the main event here. People either start their trip here or end it there. For the coolest effect stand underneath the tree, ... read more

Wednesday morning, at 6am, I'll set out for my big adventure: a week in New York city, followed by 4 weeks in India. Here it is Monday very late/Tuesday very early, and there is not one thing in my bag. I'm not terribly worried about this fact - I don't need to haul the kitchen sink on my trip. But, as with most things like this, I wish it were done so I could quit thinking about it. It is always this way - too many things to do, not enough time to do them. Fortunately, in the last few hours I've moved from "thinking about packing" to "laying thing out that I need to pack". Maybe by noon tomorrow there'll be something in my bag.... read more

It's official, 44 hours is a VERY long time..... that's how long it took for us to make it from our bed in Amsterdam, to the next bed, in Houston. We left the Robertson's apartment in Munich at about 12:45 AM, to make the 1:03 subway to the train station.... once we got to the station, we had to wait till 3 AM to catch the first train to the airport.... This is a very nice train station, and it is central to a very nice mass transit system (Munich's is apparently one of the best in Europe), but it's pretty freaky in the wee hours during Oktoberfest.... Anyway, we tried to blend in with our huge packs and made it safely to the airport at 4 AM. We checked in with Air France for our ... read more

It looks like we're really leaving! Here's pictures to prove it. I can't remember the last time that I was away from work this long, but I know it was between college and "real world", so there was obviously lots of computer games involved. I wonder what I'm going to do without any electronics for two weeks..... I guess you'll have to read on to find out. We leave tomorrow morning and drive to Houston. Then we'll fly overnight to Amsterdam, then on to Munich after a few hours' layover.... See you in October! -Joe PS, can you believe that I'm going to Europe with that girl!?!?! WOOT!... read more

Hi, On the last weekend, I have travelled to south Texas. First stop was Austin where I have spent the night. Austin has great night life, nice pubs, etc. In one of the pubs, I watched a bluz performance which was really nice. A couple from Forth Worth "adopted" me. They were very much impressed that I have travelled on my own, a piece of cake for me. They were quite drunk and made me drunk as well by buying me more drinks. The lady kept using the sentence: "Oh, this is so hot" (hot = cool) on about everything. "I am from Israel" - "Oh, this is so hot". Or, "I work in computers" - "Oh, this is so hot", etc. Once they left to another pub, I escaped from them. On Saturday, waking up ... read more

In less than a week we'll be on our way! We're excited, and I'm a little nervous that I'm going to forget something big like leaving the front door unlocked, but it's gonna be fun! We'll fly on the 15th from Houston to Munich, Germany. We plan to travel in Germany, Italy, and Switzerland, and we'll be traveling with some good friends of ours who are living in Germany for a few months. Joe and I hope to update this every few days on our trip so everyone can see where we're at and know how we're doing. We probably won't be answering individual emails, but feel free to send some or post comments. We hope you enjoy sharing our "long walk" with us! Here's some fun pictures to get us started.... read more
