Oregon has so much beauty and fun stuff to do, I have thought a lot during the drive about the landscape across the country and how much people had to sacrifice and endure to make it through the "Oregon Trail". Austin said that Oregon used to be all of Washington, Wyoming, Idaho and Montana as well. Those would probably be some of the prettiest states alltogether. But considering our roots as explorers, or pilgrims, no wonder our heritage is individualistic in some senses. But adventuresome in the postive sense. It was Awesome to see Dave and I only had the morning and late evening to hang out but I am sure I will see him again soon. Dave also has been a friend I have seen in different places around the world, but mostly, Dave is my brother and has been a faithful friend in a way that no one else has. I hope God Blesses him ten times as much as he has for other people. How cool to get to see so many great friends on this trip too. Best of all, he makes me laugh a lot. Saturday, June 18, 2005 Northwest Air Flt 597 to PDX Our trip is over and we are on our way home. I have already transferred the last day’s photos from camera to computer and will upload them and our last travel blog entry tonight before bed. Our flight was already arriving at 11:07, and then got away a good 20 minutes late anyway. It’ll be tough to get up for bishopric mtg. tomorrow! We began the day with what was I believe the best hotel breakfast of the trip. It was actually more of a motel, as the doors opened to the outside. The hotel staff cooked in a little kitchen, and it was good—eggs, Canadian bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, plus a large continental bar. Things have been pretty chaotic here in Eugene for the past week. It finally seems as though we are getting things organized. We leave on Saturday, June 18th. Dan has been busily updating some of our plans. He has been changing some of our reservations in France and Germany. In late May, 2005, as the crowds were heading out for the long holiday weekend, your Oly trio returned from a four day photo safari to Silver Falls State Park, east of Salem, Oregon. It is about a 3 hour drive for us. We arrived at Silver Falls the previous Monday afternoon and had most of the campground to ourselves in a beautiful site next to a burbling stream. Someone has to do this work of capturing magnificent images of spectacular exposures of our great Northwest. Images from this expedition are available for view and purchase in my online gallery at NW Exposures After our wet, rainy outing to the Columbia Gorge earlier in May, the weather was perfect for this trip. Hello out there... I would have done this sooner, but my laptop power connection crapped out on me... ugh. So, when we are in Cheyenne I am sending it out to be serviced from the UPS store. We are visiting Jake's Aunt Nora and Uncle Mark. They have a son, Eric, who is six, so the girls are having a ball. We are staying the night at their house tonight. So, our trip started out slowly because Jake had forgotten to have our spare tire changed to the new size that we got put on. So, we drove up the highway to Tok through the night to attempt to get on schedule. We were on time when we left there. Cinco de Mayo!

So today is Cinco de Mayo in Portland, Or (and, I suppose, most other places in the world that celebrate this Mexican holiday). Portland has a "sister city"--Guadalajara! Having visited Guadalajara, Mexico, I was excited to learn that the wonderful dance troupe, Ballet Folklorico de Guadalajara are performing at the fiesta down on the waterfront. Yea for brightly colored dresses and sparkling smiles! Perhaps there is some salsa or flamenco in my near future.... Speaking of which, I'm so excited!!! I still need to buy the tickets, but it looks like I'll be able to go the Eistedfodd International Festival in Llangollen, Wales! If I make it there by the 7th (which I will), I could go to the evening concert--Flamenco Nights! Yea for swooshy skirts, pounding feet and beautiful serpent-like hands!
