Meandered my way up the Oregon Coast today. Very pretty drive up US101. Stopped in Bandon on the way up and had some really good fish and chips. Also stopped at several lighthouses along the way. I don't know what it is about those things that I just love. Wish I would have had more time to explore some of the towns along the way becase a lot of them looked neat. It was a long drive, though, and the place that I'm staying (Seaside, OR) is a neat coastal town too. I went down to the main area on Broadway tonight to eat (Clam Chowder), and it looked like they had a lot of shops and reastaurants down that way. The reception was just as fantastic-- how can you beat a back-yard barbeque complete with home-made rasberry wine and microbrewed beer in mason jars? Jeremy even ... read more

We said goodbye to Jane, Paul, Aislinn and Attikus in style at the Columbia River Gorge . This was pretty cool, as we had seen the source of the river - The Columbia ice fields (in the Rockies) - with Marilyn and Richard, and we would see it enter the ocean in Astoria, where we were headed. After goodbyes and coffee, Jono and I hit the road to the coast. As soon as we were out of the city we noticed a growing accumulation of snow on either side of the road, and in no time at all we were driving (very slowly) over a snow and ice covered road. We were totally unprepared for this - we didn’t realise the passes between Portland and the Coast were high enough to gather so much snow, and ... read more
