16th June, 2009. Newport Beach, Oregon
Away early again, off down to Newport beach (by the way Kelly we had Oysters for dinner last night). The first part of the trip took us slightly inland, and then back out onto the coast, this is one scenic Highway. The road travels in and out of the coast, beautiful bays and lots of small resort towns (not busy at the moment but in a few weeks time will be booked out). The beaches look great and the weather is starting to get warmer, nice wide beaches.
Into Newport and booked into Harbour Village Camp, last spot until the end of September and they have 140 sites (all RV, no tents).
We are staying in a Bay, went for a walk after setting up, down into the fishing village, 100's of fishing boats (trawlers, crabbers etc). Interesting little township, intermingled with the restaurants and shops are fish processing plants and wharves, Sam is not keen on the smell, but really great spot. We had a 4 o'clock lunch, I had crumbed Ling-Cod (beautiful) and Sam had Thai prawn salad that burnt her tonsils out, she did enjoy it.
Then off for a walk
out on the formed breakwater which guides the harbour flow out and maintains the entrance. Great walk, we could see the Dungoness crabs moving around in the clear water (they are big). Back home to crack open a Crab and dinner was served - the Dungoness crab is very sweet.
