I have lots to tell you about. We drove from Vancouver to Seattle to visit the Space Needle. It was interesting but the view from the Willis Tower was better and higher. From the Space needle we drove to Arlington Washington to spend the night and left early the next morning for our trek up to Mount St. Helen’s. (part of the Cascade mountains) Now this is worth a visit! The park is free except for the observatory at the very top; however, you do not need to go there is the mountain is quite visible from many of the turnouts even on a cloudy day, which we had. There was a free lecture giving the details of the eruption in 1980. If you were born in the 50’s or early 60’s you most likely will ... read more

Hakomi at the Movies The Hakomi week has come to a close, I’ve washed my clothes. I’ve opened, I begin to reconfigure - I duck into an evening theatre. I am still in Hakomi mode - I am noticing what comes up for me, my immediate response as the movie unfolds. For those who haven’t seen the last Harry Potter movie, and care to watch it, go ahead and stop reading. I don’t think I will give any plot away, since this plot is a lot like all other plots of epic films. I notice what I wanted to see, to hear, and to learn from this. I watched as it twisted away from what I wanted. What I wanted is to have the story stop before the bow was tied, for the film to give ... read more

8 August 2010 We awoke to clear skies after a bout with smoke ridden days from a bad wildfire. We decided to head up to the mountains and take a lunch to one of the high lakes. A drive up any or all of the Cascade Lakes Highway is always a treat! We were astonished by how many people had the same idea we did, though - we've never seen it so busy in the mountains outside of a long weekend! We headed out of Bend and up Century Drive/Cascade Lakes Highway. Our first stop was at Dutchman's Flat to enjoy the view of Mt. Bachelor, South Sister and Broken Top. We continued on to Sparks Lake. We had planned to eat there, but the amount of people, noise, cars zooming down the dirt roads and ... read more

July 18, 2010 The beautiful McKenzie Pass Highway (Highway 242) in the Central Cascades mountains of Oregon is only open a few months a year. It closes in October/November when the snow becomes an issue and doesn't reopen until the snow melts in May/June/July. This is an old and very winding road and while they allow some trailers, I would not want to pull anything on this road or be in a very large vehicle. This year, it opened late because the road department repaved the entire length of the road - and did a magnificent job, I might add! We used the little known detour around the town of Sisters - as the highway becomes much like a parking lot on Sundays in the summer - and drove up Highway 126/20/22 - through the Santiam ... read more

On the drive home from the Northwest Cashmere Field Day and Fleece Show, we stopped to enjoy the view of the Detroit Dam and also walked across it. Sadly, the tours they used to give were suspended in 2001 and still have not been reopened. We were glad for the brief break in the rain to explore a bit downstream and on the dam. The Detroit Dam was built in 1953 on the North Santiam River and has created the much used and loved Detroit Lake. We had an incredibly wet winter/spring, so it was wonderful to see the water levels to the top! There were many families fishing off of the dam and they were catching fish! Looked like trout for the most part. The people were not friendly and didn't want to talk. We ... read more

June 4, 2010 We headed off to Dallas in the morning and hit quite the rainstorm in the Cascades, but it gave us some beauty we didn't expect. Winter doesn't seem to want to go away this year... the only way the snow is melting right now is with the constant rain! As always, it was a dramatic view of the intense and tragic burn along the highway from the 2003 B&B Complex fire. Map to Complex Fire This was a huge and hot fire and the land is still struggling to heal itself. That fire was a horrible and long event. One we won't quickly forget. We were astonished to see the large waterfall down the side of the mountain --- not that it was there, but that we got to see it. It is ... read more
