Today was just a travel day. 8 hours from Memphis, TN to Edmond, OK. Saw a bit of snow along the way, but otherwise easy travel. The plus of today was getting to stay with friends. Tim was Scott's roommate while he was attending GA Tech. We attended his wedding to Kristy 6 years ago. We are very grateful they let us come and stay. I know James appreciated having room to play. Millie got to run around their backyard with their pups and got some exercise as well. Also, Tim makes some good ribs! ... read more

I had one of the best experiences of my life over Fall Break this year. I went on the school trip to NYC with a bunch of students I didn't know. It was the chance of a lifetime for me. The NYC media tour has opened my eyes to many new cultures and opportunities. In four short days, we visited Clear Channel Communications, Paley Media Center, the CEO of IRTS and CBS... Not to mention all the adventures we went on outside of these seminars. The trip started out hectic, to say the least! Our flight got cancelled and rescheduled. I was up until the early morning constantly checking Facebook to see what the status of our flight was. I ended up oversleeping and racing to the airport like a crazy person. I was on a ... read more

Sadly we are back home, state side. I keep clicking my heels together hoping that when I open my eyes I will be back in Wales. I didn't think I'd miss Wales as much as I do. I think for the most part being home means back to school, back to work, back to my internship, and basically back to no free time. Wales was a dream come true. I needed this time away to in a way find myself and grow up. I definitely did a lot of that while I was there. I've learned that I don't have to talk to my mom 5 times a day, but my puppy has also taught me that I'm never allowed to leave her again. I'm good on flying for awhile at least long distances. I probably ... read more

This school year I along with a hand full of Mass Communication majors received the opportunity to go to New York City for a few days in October. New York City is probably one of the most important cities a mass communications major could visit, and we took advantage of this by visiting landmark companies in media and entertainment while we were there. My favorite thing about NYC was the diverse atmosphere, the fast paced environment, and lastly the cheesecake. The diner in our hotel was filled with people speaking different languages. When people were not speaking a different language they were rushing. I was ran into or bumped so many times I lost count. Time Square is expected to be constantly busy, but everywhere I went was crowded with people in a hurry to get ... read more

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - So why the hell am I blogging and having a second cup of coffee in my motel room instead of riding? I am on the west side of Albuquerque, which means I have to ride through an unfamiliar city during morning rush hour with the blinding light of the rising sun in my eyes. I can only control one of those variables, so I’m waiting for the sun to get a little higher in the sky. I have about 550 miles to ride today – from here to the home of lifelong friend Sue Crumbo in Edmond, Okla. It involves about 9 hours of riding time, plus maybe two hours off the bike for gas and food, plus an hour lost to a time change, so I expect to get there around sundown. ... read more

We were once again woken by screaming toddler getting spanked. Since the sun was out again we headed to the beach! We spent our last hour splashing in the waves and digging our toes in the sand. Next, we jumped in the pool while dad made a friend from New Orleans. What's with all the friends, who does he think he is, Caleb? They talked sports for 30 minutes, then we had to finish packing. Caleb carefully caries the turtles down the steps and we carried the luggage. ( we need turtle names! Connors is Mako, I came up with that one, you know, like the shark, anyway, we need another name, We don't know if they're boys or girls, but I like Coco, then it would be Coco like coconut  and Mako, very beachy) Then ... read more

Welcome to my online journal of my travels through China on a People-To-People Pilgrimage with Division of Overseas Ministries with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Follow my journey from my doorstep "to the end of the earth" (Acts 1:8). What is a People-to-People Pilgrimage? "A People-to-People Pilgrimage is an exciting adventure, not only for those who participate in the pilgrimage, but for the entire congregation. The experience is contagious and may result in a revitalization of your congregation. Global Ministries has as its priority and emphasis on Critical Presence" which is understood as meeting God's people and creation at the point of deepest need:spiritually, physically, emotionally, and/or economically. A People-to-People Pilgrimage provides opportunities for individuals to participate in a ministry of critical presence by visiting with and accompanying our ... read more

Making Preparations Today I begin my 10-day countdown of preparations for my worldwide venture. As someone said Spread out all the clothes you plan to take and all the money. Take half of the clothes and twice the money. Yesterday I got my Yellow Fever vaccination from one of the few local doctors authorized to administer the shots. I've already updated hepatitis vaccinations, and secured malarial and polio meds. My airline reservations worldwide have been completed with the help of Basel from AirTreks. Only a few lodging reservations have been made as I continue to seek local people to host me as I go. My plan is to minimize the number of hotels/hostels in favor of local hosting. I've been thinking through what to carry in my small backpack and perhaps a small satchel for ... read more

We had a great Thanksgiving, over 60 Converses or related family turned out at the United Methodist Church in Great Bend Kansas. The next day, Linda and I headed out for Edmond Oklahoma, only four hours away. I wanted to meet fellow blogger Kate Hildebrand. We got acquainted through this blog service. I truly liked her blog and contacted her asking her to come to Kinsley Rotary and give a program. To my great surprise she accepted and she came and gave one of the best programs we had all summer. Linda and I got another great Thanksgiving dinner at the Hildebrands. Betsy, Kate's Mom is a great cook!!!! Linda and I certainly enjoyed our time at the Hildebrands and hope they can come and visit us again someday. All are avid adventure travelers. Betsy, in ... read more
