Woke up early the next day and since Danielle was still asleep I went out myself and did some exploring of the building. The rooftop terrace had a nice view of Cleveland and I reminded myself to go up later that evening to see the buildings lit up. I wandered around the neighborhood looking for some place to get some breakfast. As it turns out the famous West Side market was a block away from the hostel. I sat down for breakfast at the West Side Café which got all their ingredients from the neighboring market. Most of the breakfast was fairly standard eggs, toast, and potatoes but I will say the bacon they had was incredible. I wanted to get some bacon to bring home but it would be hard to keep it fresh on ... read more

This will be my first blog about a road trip. I take road trips all the time but I have never written about them. I quite enjoy driving aimlessly and I can drive 12 hours in one day so I can go a great distance in just a few days. For this trip I will have a driving companion, my good friend Danielle Takacs I originally wanted to go to NYC but the greater distance and the fact we only had a weekend caused Danielle to veto that idea (GRRRRRRRRR). So we settled on Cleveland and honestly the only thing I know about Cleveland is that their river was on fire at some point. Before we left Danielle and I worked out a few things we could see, Christmas Story house, Rock and Roll hall of ... read more

What do you do when you’re in a Trucker’s Garage in Cleveland? You write about your experience. Yesterday we had a fabulous day in Niagara Falls. We biked next to the falls and had dinner in the Winnebago. We were a little nervous at the boarders with our 1974 Winnebago. Will they inspect it; will they search the place; will it be a hassle to cross to the US? Thankfully, after a series of small questions and a peak through the side window, we were on American ground. We decided to drive down to Cleveland where we would stop for the night. I searched for some nice places to visit on Monday morning before we were to hit the road again and found the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. Exciting! So we head ... read more

So, our flight to Detroit was cancelled. *Wah wah* Michael and I arrived nice and early. Checked out our gate then went to get some lunch. While we were gone, our flight was cancelled and we didn't know. No announcement or anything. It seems because of the storms in the eastern United States today, some flights were cancelled/or delayed. A flight that was going out before ours in the same gate to New York didn't have a plane. Then, our plane showed up. They were able to get the NY people out but they cancelled our flight to Detroit. So now, we are going to Newark at 7:15pm. Then we leave Newark at 11:00pm to London. Not exactly excited about London, I hope we get out of there ok with the Olympics going on. Instead of ... read more

We started our trip on Wednesday morning, 7am. Great news! The key doesn't turn in the ignition! But after spending over 2 hours toggling the key we made it to Syracuse, where we were told we had to fix the ignition for 800$. However in Cleveland the answer was: change the keys for 40$...hmmm Oh and we stopped at the Niagra Falls.... read more

I think I may need rehab. I feel like the teat has been ripped away from me and I am just expected to hunt on my own. I was hoping for a weaning process or at least a very slow transition from sea to land. But by my own doing, I threw myself from one extreme to the next. So I find myself sitting here with 2 layers of socks, 4 shirts and wool sweatpants; staring out my Dad’s back door at a dreary, cloud covered winters day in Cleveland, Ohio. I couldn’t tell you if it were noon or midnight as the natural lighting gives no indication to there being a difference. And I wonder to myself, “Tahiti for this?” I knew this debacle would invade my thoughts. I was almost ready to deal with ... read more
