Living in Harmony

Patricia

Everyday, I think about being happy. I make efforts to stay positive, spread happiness around me and not to give into fear. I try to accept everything and everyone as necessary for my personal growth. I hope to influence people in being happy and loving. I've been to some personal growth retreats which gave me some tools that I am grateful for. About a year ago, I discovered meditation and just recently, I've been listening and practicing mantras.

I think life is about taking risks, following our hearts and our dreams. My journey is about to begin. September 1st is the day I make a dream come true.

In May 2013, we decided we didn’t want to live a sedentary, routine-based life and decided to buy an RV and leave on an eight-month road trip. We planned and prepared for four months, and September 1st, we were on the road with our two year old beagle, Abbey. During those four months, we bought our RV, a 1974 Winnebago Indian – that we absolutely fell in love with; we found a tenant for the time we’d be gone; we sold our car; Mat quit his job; and I got permission to work twenty hours a week instead of forty. I am fortunate to be working as a software quality assurance specialist and be able to work remote. So there we were, a couple in our late twenties, with a Winnebago older than us, traveling Canada ... read more

Today we enter the last month of 2013, a year that has been memorable and brought happiness to my life and many around me. I feel like 2012 was difficult for many people, I heard many bad news or things weren’t the way people wanted them to be. In 2013, this changed, dreams camdictioe true, lives were changed in positive ways, relationships bloomed, families grew and so on. The year isn’t over yet, which means I cannot make a complete reflection on the year, but as the last days of the year approach, I cannot help myself but be thankful for what’s happened so far. This year, I realized we do have the power to chose the way we live; we can decide what makes us happy; we always have choice, even if we can’t change ... read more

It’s day 73 of our road trip. I feel like we’ve done and seen so much already. I’m losing track of weekdays and weekends, losing track of hours and meal times, I guess that’s a good sign. On November 1st we took the ferry from Victoria, British Columbia to Port Angles, Washington, and right away we got mugged. That’s right, at the very borders, the border patrol stole our lamb kebabs, an apple and our house plant which was a gift from my grandma. We tried to fight over the plant but there was nothing we could do without the plant’s certificate. I knew I needed specific papers for my dog (which they didn’t even ask to see) but a certificate for my little houseplant? Once the border mugging was done, we started driving down the ... read more

It is extremely difficult to describe the beauty of the mountains. As we drive down the highway from Jasper to Lake Louise, the massive mountains stand all around us, with clouds softly resting on the peaks, light snow freshly sprinkled on the mountain top and wild animals watching us drive by. I’ve been taking so many pictures; everything here is worth a picture, but none of them completely capture the greatness, wilderness and wonder of this nature. It feels great to be out here, although Calgary and Edmonton were great. We were spoiled little brats in Calgary with grandma Perkins making us delicious dinners and deserts, the best cream puffs in the world and the classic café au lait. But it sure feels good to just take a deep breath up in these mountains and listen. ... read more

What do you do when you’re in a Trucker’s Garage in Cleveland? You write about your experience. Yesterday we had a fabulous day in Niagara Falls. We biked next to the falls and had dinner in the Winnebago. We were a little nervous at the boarders with our 1974 Winnebago. Will they inspect it; will they search the place; will it be a hassle to cross to the US? Thankfully, after a series of small questions and a peak through the side window, we were on American ground. We decided to drive down to Cleveland where we would stop for the night. I searched for some nice places to visit on Monday morning before we were to hit the road again and found the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. Exciting! So we head ... read more

A few tears filled my eyes when I said goodbye to my mom and dad this morning. After twelve wonderful days spent with them in St-Tite, it was time for Mat and I to hit the road again and start going west. We met up with Mat’s dad in Montreal who lent us his camera for our trip. We had a quick lunch in the Winnebago, bought a few last minute things at Canadian Tire and next thing you know we were crossing the Ontario boarder. We passed by Cornwall and I remembered my teenage years: The Baby-sitters Club, badminton team, first year of high school, fancy folded letters and gel pens, eating chicken pot pies on Friday, mike's hard lemonade, trick-or-treating in the neighborhood and not being “allowed” to cross Glen road… We stopped in ... read more

Mat and I are so proud and in love with our 1974 Winnebago and with the entire trip and adventure that is coming up in 17 days. Last Friday, we had a photo shoot with the talented Louane St-Jean, part of it was for Mat’s upcoming website and the other part was just to have awesome pictures before we leave! Here are just a couple pictures from that photo shoot. Today, we met with a journalist from the local paper who will be writing an article about our adventure. We hope this will inspire people to live their dreams, to not only look at the time go by and count the time they have left, but to live the present moment and love what they do. That’s it for now, going back to cleaning up the ... read more

Finally sitting at home, feeling twenty pounds lighter, with a huge sentiment of content, confidence and bliss. I just got back from a week at the head office for the company I work for in Franklin Mass, to announce to them my desire to work part time for them as I leave with my boyfriend on a six month road trip across Canada and the United States. Although the news came to them as quite a surprise, their reaction was very pleasant. Well prepared, I laid down my plan for the part time schedule, knowing they count on me for meetings and leading QA activities. They had no objections, hardly any concerns and made my dream easier to achieve. Everything about this trip has been so easy to plan so far; things have just been falling ... read more
