After been shrouded in fog for two days and then another day later on, gale force winds one day and a very bumpy ride at times,(passing by the remains of the Titantic some 14 miles away) we have finally arrived in wonderful New York. It was absolutely magical sailing into Manhattan just before sunrise, as we came under the Varrazano Narrows Bridge and into the Hudson River the lights of Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty looked amazing! As usual the USA immigration put forward their best personalities - SO rude they are unbelievable, we finally got out of the terminal at around 8.00a.m. Some that were much later took 3 hrs to get out. Then walked to Times Square enroute to the memorial in the financial district - got there with a few minutes to spare before our 10.00a.m. time slot. Around 8km walk from our ship - but a great walk soaking up the atmosphere on Manhattan. I had booked our tickets before we left Australia - you have to advance purchase otherwise no entry. It was a very moving experience and they have done a very good job of the area, having replanted the only tree that was
MANHATTAN
With the Freedom Tower at Ground Zero -one, red and blue lights left standing after the disaster, took it away while they did the site. Then for some lunch and some retail therapy - John broke down a bit so had to catch the subway for part of our journey back uptown - sore back, sore knee etc - too much walking or MAYBE too much shopping. Finally got a Repunzal jewellery box we had been looking for at every Disney Shop - the huge one at Times Square had it!!! Lots of things going on around Times Square - its always fun around there, then onto the Intrepid and a nice cold beer in a bar near there. Great day but feet were in need for a massage last night - after 16km walk. Set sail at 6.00p.m. for Antigua but just been told this morning after travelling through the night that we will not be going to Antigua as Tropical Storm Dorian has formed in the Atlantic Ocean and heading towards that area - Instead of getting to Antigua Monday we have another day at sea and arrive at Aruba on Tuesday.
