We got up and packed up to check out at 11am, and luckily we were able to keep our bags at the hotel for a couple of dollars, as we weren’t going to our next hotel until later that evening. We jumped on the subway, and headed for the Bronx, to go to the Bronx Zoo. I wasn’t nervous at all – it was the middle of the day – however Carl was slightly worried when we were the only Caucasian people on the train =P In the Bronx the trains go above ground, so you actually have something to look at whilst waiting to reach your stop. The zoo is a fair way into the Bronx, and is only about a 4 minute walk from the station. The zoo was pretty quiet, being the middle ... read more

This morning my mother and I caught an early flight from Vancouver to New York to surprise our friend Elia. It was her 50th birthday and this trip had been in the works by her husband for over two years. I had been to New York when I was 16, but this was the first time my mother would be visiting. We arrived around 5:00pm and were picked up by her husband Charlies and daughter Sara and we immediatly left for their home in the Bronx, hoping to get there before she came home from work. We literally walked in the door about 5 minutes before she did! She was beyond shocked to see us! We enjoyed some take out pizza from a local place and called it a night. Tomorrow we will be heading into ... read more

What does someone do at a blog? I have no idea! I would think its like any other typical blog except for the very important point that we are all traveling or travelers in our own ways. So this blog is about adventurous experiences: good and bad. I'm going to do my best to keep everything as sincere as possible. But warning I do have a pretty positive outlook on life. Never the less, if something ticks me off you will surely hear about it because I also have Leo + Latina blood a double pepper of excitement. A little bit about myself: I'm an avid traveler. Ever since I was young I always found myself in a plane trying to get home. I've found home and have lots of family to prove it but ... read more

Sunday, July 4th Happy 'beating the British in the only war they ever lost' day America. Not much more American to do than to head to the baseball we reckon. And due to the huge flood of tickets on the internet the Yankees is as American in tradition and shameless corporatism as it comes. With seats about the same price as a beer we'd be foolish not to! We caught the subway up to the Bronx, getting out directly in front of the Yankees' six month old stadium. It's an absolute commercial haven; everything you can think of with a Yankees logo you can buy. Placemats, plastic cups used to put ice-cream in, sex toys. If there is a buyer, there is a seller. A single beer costs 10 dollars!!! And Americans have it watered down ... read more

New York is always magical; even more so at Christmas time! We signed up for a bus trip to "The City" sponsored by our friends the Carneys at Carneys Pub so long ago, we had almost forgotten about it. Good thing we jogged our memory as it was a great trip. Our group of about 40 people had decent balcony seats at Radio City for the Christmas Show starring The Rockettes! It was an amazing mix of staging with 3 D projection, flying, mixed media live/animation effects, huge live orchestra, Santa, a Nativity scene with live animals, and the Rockettes. Stand out acts included the a wild ride around Manhattan at Christmas as the 3-D animated opener, a charming adaptation of The Nutcracker, and great precision dancing by the Rockettes. Especially loved the timeless Parade of ... read more

Tuesday September 29th 2009 They don’t do small in New York City, they just don’t. For anyone who has not had the opportunity to come here, the pictures really don’t do the city justice in just how grand sized the entire place is. The hustle and bustle is immense and truth be told, rather infuriating but I appreciate as a starry eyed tourist I contribute to that. Unlike the ability to walk around freely in Boston, covering the entire city centre and a few of the nearby neighbourhoods was an achievable proposition - in New York the same principles just don’t apply - it really is too far and the central part of the city stretches for the best part of nearly 13 miles. We got up this morning with no real plan set in stone, ... read more
