Lake George has been a favorite vacation spot in our family for years. My parents have been there four times, but they say it’s a magical place regardless of how many times you visit. Before the actual vacation part started, my family and I visited Bard College for my brother college applications. As the younger sibling, I don’t really get a say when it comes to going on college tours. This time though, the weather was good, so I didn’t have much to complain about during the tour around the campus. Soon after, we were well on our way to Lake George. On the first night of our trip, a childhood dream of mine came true. I had ice cream for dinner. Nothing else; just sweet, sweet ice cream. Martha’s Dandee Creme was one of my ... read more

Sauf que ... read more

Grandchildren and grandparents LOVE Lake George RV Park! It's near the Rt 149 turn off from Northway (I87) Exit 20 on Route 9 near the outlets. With Beth and her family in Rutland, and Wes and I having Vivian visiting for her vacation while her parents were in Ireland, it was perfect. A free movie one night, a naturalist educator with live birds of prey, a snapping turtil, and a snake one morning, a snack bar with ice cream, a wonderful pool, game room, and a great playground were among the amenities we availed ourselves to! These cousins don't see each other a great deal; so it was a nice bonding time. I had lots of crafts and books stowed in the RV, and all of the attracions of Lake George, Great Escape, Outlet Shopping, tons ... read more

My final work day is August 6 and Diannes is August 11 (she thinks). I think we both have mixed feelings about leaving our jobs. I have been in mine for almost 15 years and have enjoyed the work and people. Sometimes though, it starts to become routine and you know it is time for a change. If you are paying attention, you start to see yourself changing towards how you deal with people or tasks at work. Some of us realize it is time for a change (do I try something else or change what I do at work), or some of us start counting the days till retirement (6 years, 5 months and 22 days, but whose counting). If your one of the ones counting or waiting till you have enough $ to leave, ... read more

August 3, 2008 While I find a way to travel each year, my closest friends are not always able, normally due to financial constraints. With this in mind I put together a short vacation that could get us away for a few days at minimal cost and that would appeal to our appreciation for nature and history. As a child my family had often gone up to Lake George, NY, for summer vacation, home to ideal fresh water beaches, a reconstructed fort, hiking opportunities, downtown shops, and an amusement park. I searched online and found a three-bedroom cottage at an affordable price. Kristen, Gabe, Nate and I pile into a car and drive for three hours along the largely scenic Route 22 and Interstates 90 and 87. Derek will meet up with us that evening. Shortly ... read more

Wiped out by our afternoon of mostly browsing, we were ready for some serious relaxation when we made it back to the Sagamore - time to hit the hot tub! Now that I had my new bathing suit, I was set to go. But first stop, Mr. Brown's Pub for a snack and an attempt to drive out Jess' cold with a gin and tonic. Since we were always big fans of our campus pub when we were in college, it was only natural that we would be drawn to Mr. Brown's pub. We found our seats at the bar and ordered up a big plate of cheese fondue with pita chips - combined with an official Saranac root beer, this made for the perfect afternoon snack. We chatted with the bartender, planned some serious relaxation ... read more

When you get four ladies together who don't often get to see that much of each other, you can guess as to what one thing will be happening - lots and lots of chatting. Catching up kept us up late on Friday night, so after we put a sniffling Jess to bed in the living room and climbed into our own beds, it was after midnight. Curled up at the edge of the bed so as not to bump into Dana and varying room temperatures meant I didn't get too much sleep, so it was ten the next morning before we ventured out of bed - my typing at the computer was the impetus for getting the morning started. We started slow, watching a good couple of hours of Sell this House! on A&E before showering ... read more
