When you get four ladies together who don't often get to see that much of each other, you can guess as to what one thing will be happening - lots and lots of chatting. Catching up kept us up late on Friday night, so after we put a sniffling Jess to bed in the living room and climbed into our own beds, it was after midnight. Curled up at the edge of the bed so as not to bump into Dana and varying room temperatures meant I didn't get too much sleep, so it was ten the next morning before we ventured out of bed - my typing at the computer was the impetus for getting the morning started. We started slow, watching a good couple of hours of Sell this House! on A&E before showering and dressing to meet the day. The rainfall the night before was only half finished, leading to a day of sunny rainshowers and strange cloud cover. This signalled jeans, sneakers and sweaters as the day's fashion and reminded me of my Hamilton days. Dana joked that it was sad that crappy weather always reminded me of Hamilton, but as any good Ham-tech alum knows, if
it's not snowing, it's raining.
We drove into Bolton Landing and lamented our previous night's decision to avoid the kareoke at a local bar. We figured Jess would have done a fabulous reprise of Cameron Diaz's solo in My Best Friend's Wedding. After parking at a local church, we wandered into town and found a local diner serving breakfast. After confirming that we did not, in fact, wish to sit outside in the cold rain, we had some delicious breakfast/lunch. I opted for my usual French toast, which I greatly enjoyed. When we were sufficiently fortified, we decided to check out the shops in the town to see what they had to offer and hunt for my elusive bathing suit. The first store we went into was Happy Jack's, which did look happy. It was filled to the brim with all manner of funny items and gifts, from a handheld drug test that we recommended Jess use on her students to sarcastic ladies' calendars and off-color tee shirts, and yes, even bathing suits. I opted to forego the "man-eater" bikini that we found for a one piece navy speedo. Yes, I even tried it on in the tiny dressing
room and called the ladies over to get their approval. The whole experience in the store was fun, so if you're going to Bolton Landing, be sure to check it out!
Outside of Happy Jacks is an oversized Adirondack chair, encouraging adults to find their inner Edith Ann. We all piled into the chair and waited with our cameras for any unsuspecting shoppers to wander by so we could beg them to take our pictures. After waiting for a while, we finally found a nice couple to take some for us and commemorate our weekend.
We headed next to an Adirondack book shop, where an author/editor was signing a book of letters to pets that she had compiled. I assured her that I was a pet lover, confirmed by my dog tattoo, but after browsing through a couple of the letters, I knew the book would simply be too sad for me. It was here we managed to find the one item I wanted to buy in Lake George - a sticker for my car with LG on it, my initials. I also picked up a sticker that said "woof." We even found the book that showcases one
of Sage's dogs right on the cover and another book, with a photo of her dad and brother in it - Sage and her family are an Adirondack institution! It was pretty cool to be all the way in Lake George though, and still find these books!
We checked out a few other shops and even took a restroom break - while Sage and Jess headed inside, Dana and I brought out our inner child and swung on the swings by the lake. We swapped stories about people getting kicked in the face while someone was swinging and I remembered how much I loved the swings - it's silly, but true! We found a little antique store that was full of hidden treasures and dust - I found English china, old advertisements, military uniforms, rows of Pez, tons of glassware - even old bottles taken out of the lake and sold there (I admit, that is slightly yucky). We even noticed a couple ski lifts and a gondola outside! It was fun to explore though and once we were finished shopping, we were ready for an ice cream. Fortunately, there was a Ben & Jerry's right in town! They
had my favorite right there - Phish Food - so a small dish of that and some freshly squeezed lemonade (I actually watched her squeeze the lemon) made me a happy camper. We completed our exploration of Bolton Landing by checking out the menus for all of the dinner options on the main street to see what our choice for the evening would be. We narrowed it down to a local bar/restaurant which added a Mexican menu, an Italian pasta/pizza place, and a woodsy lakeside option - little did we know, we would end up eating right at the Sagamore!

Yes, yes, I always mix them up - though I'm not sure why, because I never watch Designed to Sell. But I did make the change to Sell this House, so the blog is correct :)
