I spent two days in Cooperstown. What a cool town. I spent about an hour and a half on Monday late afternoon going through a room where they had all of the plaques for all the Hall of Famers. The next day I spent about four to five hours going through three stories of exhibits. It was a little different than I expected but was a lot of fun to go through and seeing it. I have been thinking about visiting the Hall of Fame for 50+ years. Hard to believe I finally got here.... read more

October 3, 2013 Our friends were off to work before we even got up, so we had a cup of coffee at their house in Walpole, NH, said goodbye to the giant great dane, and headed west. We took lots of scenic roads today and once again crossed the river into Vermont and then into New York. We think New York is every bit as gorgeous as Vermont and New Hampshire this time of year. Our highlight today was the Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum at Cooperstown, NY. We spent almost three hours there, and could have spent three days. It's a lot of fun, full of interesting memorabilia and information detailing the history of baseball. I'm not a big sports' fan and I still enjoyed it a lot. The video clips of "great plays" ... read more

Batter up! We made it to New York! Can't believe that we are finally here. It is nothing like I imagined. Everything is green and there are so many trees that you can't see very far into the countryside. There are hills everywhere in fact you will be hard pressed to find any areas that are flat. It is very, very pretty here. We stayed in a little town called Harpursville which was about an hour outside Cooperstown. It was a very quaint RV park and we had a gorgeous view as you will see from the picture I took this morning when we left. It has finally turned cool and we are loving it. It was only 67 today and Don wore jeans and I wore a sweatshirt for the 1st time. It's great! Yesterday ... read more

Sunday, 21 June (Littleton KOA to Herkimer KOA): (Sorry for the "Coopestown", but there was no Herkimer or close place) Before we left Littleton, we discovered a major discrepancy between the route to Herkimer KOA that the GPS had set up and the one I did using Google Map. I’d noted the difference in routes, but the distance difference of 100 miles was a bit of a surprise. We ended up using the shorter route from Google and let the GPS adjust as we went. Before leaving, we stopped by the well known Littleton Coin Company, but they were closed on Sunday. I’d made a list of interesting places we might like to see along the way to Herkimer, and even though our route changed, we ended up going near two of them. Pompanoosuc Mills was ... read more

Well, we are a couple of days behind in our reporting, and we apologize, but there is just no time to sleep let alone write our blog. We left our hotel at 7:30 a.m. and began our long (5 hour) drive to Cooperstown. By now most everyone is sleeping on the bus! Our traveling to upstate New York went well, although the bus seemed to be having a little trouble going uphill. The drive through the countryside was beautiful. We are so glad to see this part of the country. About an hour before we arrived it began to rain, but as usual by the time we were ready to go outside it was a beautiful day. Cooperstown is a quaint town with beautiful houses, sitting on a huge lake. It is the ultimate vacation town ... read more

Just getting used to the format of blog entries. In 2 weeks we'll be on the way to Ecuador, my first foray into South America, and I promised to keep friends and family posted as our adventures unfold. Or as we reveal our complete ineptness at this sort of travel and screw up royally. I'm posting some photos from a recent trip to 'the other coast'. Charlie and I live in a small, rural upstate New York town between the Catskill and Adirondack mountains, New York City to the south and Albany (the state capital) to the northeast. We're embarking on some farflung journeys to experience 'up close and personal' how the rest of the planet lives. Is it really possible to survive without a WalMart/McDonalds/Home Depot nearby? Are there places in the world where every ... read more

Saturday September 1, 2007. The last day!! Breakfast with Maxanne and then we head for home. No actually we have one more place to visit the Baseball Hall of Fame, Cooperstown NY. Labor Day Weekend the place is crowded as expected. (this is another place to visit during the week and after school opens) It was worth the price of admission. We took in the exhibits but didn't linger. They really should put together an audio tour. It was about 3pm when we left and decided to find a place to eat so we didn't have to eat fast food on the highway. The GPS led us to a little restaurant on Lake Ostego just a couple of blocks from downtown. Good food a great view. Now we really are headed home. ... read more
