I am living in Somerville since March,2005. It is a beautiful place with a nice little downtown. The downtown is a mile off our house.I occassionaly walk to the downtown to grab a coffee and bagel. The downtown, though small, has an eclectic mix of eateries and cafe's from across the world that makes the Downtown vibrant and multi-cultural.The downtown has an old Church and a Court house. We also have the Somerville Middle School and the High School, that is opposite our house. During summer and spring I love to go for a brisk walk or a jog around the High School Track. It is also the time when the schools have their football matches. For quite some time I have been an avid spectator of these matches, from my kitchen window. We have friends in and around Somerville and our Fridays are ... read more

Just walked in the door and wanted to let you know we all made it back safe and sound. It was a long day of flying to I'm having whats left at home for dinner...cheese, unsalted peanuts and some hershy kisses...It's not the red snapper I had in Quepos last night with Jill, Mark, Peter, Bruno and Franc. This morning the boys from Paris B&C got up early and with a peck on both cheeks send us on our way. We'll the realy thing that woke me up was the neighbors Rooster and the unseen Howling Monkies. Ah Nature the car alarm of morning sounds. We'll throw a few more things up here as we remember them....off to bed and to get ready to join the work force... d.... read more

Today was my first day as a retiree. Transitioning from a city slicker to a backpacker mentality is proving to be a challenge as I have already experienced some embarrassing yet laughable moments today.. The first was what I thought was a brilliant invention by Coleman of a “full size” towel compacted down to a 1 ¾ inch package. Not thoroughly reading the small print, I purchased this deceiving, yet promisable package and witnessed the expansion in the safety of my own bathroom. The results were discouraging as this “full size” towel reminded me of the dish rag my mother used back in the 90’s.. The gingham pattern should have been a dead-giveaway!! Another moment occurred at the local Sports Authority. My previously written mission of finding travel-savvy clothes is proving to be another challenge. The ... read more

There he goes...

Today I had a going away party with my family. It was amazing. I am truly blessed to have such a great one. I'm really going to miss everyone. Buddy, my dog, is even nervous. He can tell someone's leaving when we take down the luggage from the closet. He went to the bathroom six times today. No matter where I go and how amazing it is, this will always be my true home. How do you spell a restful night before your six month departure? Benadryl.... read more

With only a few days left, I can say that it has hit me that I will be spending the next six months away from everything I have ever known as home. I'm going to miss my family, my friends, my home. Especially the city. It was great though to spend New Years in my second home. I have no doubt, I want to feel UNcomfortable in Spain. I want to have to adjust to the culture, the food, the people. It wouldn't be an experience otherwise. Lindsay, my housemate, left today to Madrid. We ended on, "I'll see you in Madrid!"... read more

Well the thing that Barnegat is most famous for is of course the Lighthouse. It actually sits in Barnegat Light just across the Bay but most people don't know that. I stopped by the beach and the docks today after work to snap a few pictures. Of course I forgot my zoom lense so they aren't that great. I'm going to try and go back tomorrow and get some nice shots as the sun is setting. Would really like to get a shot of it when it is snowing.... read more

Stuck at work. Though I am thinking of doing a little jet over to the island today to check out the lighthouse. Hopefully we'll see how the rest of Christmas shopping goes. The girls are up north in Sewaren so I am on my own for the next two days.... read more
