Literally the most lazy day ever. We got up late, had bagels for brunch, and then spent the whole day watching MTV. I caught up on my blog and skype home lots (today Mum, Dad and Rach got home from Peru). We all took a nap and then watched The Parent Trap whilst eating Ben&Jerry's ice cream...so yeah, not much to say for the day, but I really needed it!... read more

I was too stingy to pay for a cab to the train station so I ended up trekking across Philadelphia with all my stuff, and arrived looking like a tramp. Luckily I didn't have to wait long for a local train to Trenton and then a connection to Princeton Junction. Someone, I can't remember who, explained to me why the trains are so rubbish here. The tracks are owned and maintained by freight companies. This means (a) passenger trains have to go really slowly, as the tracks aren't designed for speed, and (b) freight trains get priority, so every time there's one coming past you have to wait in a siding for ages. Anyway, whinge over, after I arrived Judith picked me up and we went back to her house where Abu and Maria (a friend ... read more

On Monday we started exploring again. Princeton was our destination. It has been on our list since we moved to New Jersey, but wanted to wait until it was warm enough to enjoying walking the city. We picked a beautiful day and was able to stroll around and visit the seminary. On our way home we drove through Trenton to see the capital of New Jersey. We ended the day with WaWA ice cream. Yum!!... read more

American road signage sucks. "What road do we want again? It's the I-95 right?", I ask my sister. "No, we want the New Jersey Turnpike", she replies. "Hang on, is the I-95 and the New Jersey Turnpike the same thing? That's what that sign is implying..." We don't find out however, as you only see the sign literally two seconds after turning a tight corner and we miss the turnoff. As a result, we end up taking a tour of the industrial wasteland that is the backroads of Newark. "Hey look, there's a sign pointing us back to the Turnpike", spots my sister. We stop in traffic, as shifty characters in puffa-jackets cross the road. "Errrr...where do we go now", I ask as the signs run out and we end up at a car scrap yard ... read more

Again it's been a while between drinks since I sat down and put in my two cents worth so here it is. Lots and lots to talk about. I've lost and found new employment (kind of) (I will expand on this later in the blog) Met new and interesting people, finally escaped the five boroughs of New York City (other than for a sports game) and finally succumbed to the Winter that lies ahead. I am still wearing shorts though and being called crazy by workmates. The two things that do stay the same are 1. I'm still a major sports fan and New York is keeping the smile on my face by thrusting the infamous Yankee Baseball organisation into the World Series. The second is that I am still better Celebrity spotter than by better ... read more

Sorry for the delay. I've been busy hitchhiking across the country and sleeping in unlocked cars. Actually, I've been busy catching up with the peeps in Jersey, and... gasp... settling back into the office. But for now, where we left off: Nicole, Roxy, and I checked out the Coit Tower on our way out of San Fran. It's nothing more than a round, dull looking scenic tower on top of a hill just north of downtown. The old elevator was slightly cool, but the rest was a letdown, although I think the girls disagreed with me. They had windows up at the top so you couldn't even get good pictures of the skyline or the bay. But it was only $5. We got back on the PCH and headed back south. This time it was early ... read more

HI Everyone! I can't believe it, but the time is fast approaching for me to head to Paraguay! I wanted to make sure you all could see this before I leave :) I'm spending some time figuring out how to pack (it will be summer when I get there... summer... at the equator!) and I'm really only trying to bring a carry on... Not to mention trying to a 3 oz. SPF 45 in the fall in NJ! Very difficult! I will be updating this as much as possible while I'm there for a very short 9 days (2 full days of which will be travel days)... so if worse comes to worse I will update it as soon as I get back from the handwritten journal I will take with me. When I get back ... read more

I'm on the launching pad... As many know, I finished work at Bethesda on Sept 23 and have about 6wks off before I have to be in Pensacola for flight school. With the time, I decided to visit my cousin Nick who is currently living in Sapporo, Japan (for a little big longer). My other cousin, his brother, Mike will be flying out (commercial) from Oct 9-22 for us all to meet up and travel together. Roughly it should be about 1 week in Sapporo and 1 week traveling. However, since I have the time off, I decided to make it an adventure (and save a lot of money) by traveling space-available with a free military flight. Pro being price (free) but con being flexibility. I left home a few days ago on Wed and took ... read more
