This trip to Atlantic City would not have been possible if not for Ayeen's friend Jimmy who has been behind the wheel from Philadelphia to Atlantic City. He's been driving us around, showing us new places to see. We crossed the Benjamin Franklin Bridge from Philadelphia to Camden, New Jersey. Just a few minutes after crossing the bridge, we read a sign that says, "Welcome to New Jersey". Truly, living in the east coast makes "state-hopping" a walk in the park. Bigger, Badder An hour later, we found ourselves in the midst of shopping malls and casinos. Billboards have started to look exaggeratively bigger. Signs of casinos have started to look louder and badder (if there's such a word). As we walked towards the Boardwalk, we saw a facade that depicts an old American town.... read more

Took a day trip to Atlantic City. Left early on a Saturday morning and arrive in AC in less than 2 hours. Found a parking spot and immediately took a leisure stroll along the boardwalk. It was nice. Stopped by to check out shops along the way..., dashed into a casino for a restroom stop and enjoyed the ocean view from the upper level of buildings. The Piers shop at Ceasars, surrounded by panoramic, floor-to-ceiling windows, is one of the newest additions to the boardwalk shopping experiences with 80+ retail stores and restaurants. The third level is the best place to sit on a rocking chair and enjoy the sunset views at sea. One of the free attractions in the mall is The Show which is a dramatic blend of music, light, water and sound show ... read more

I am back in Philly for my last day in the US and A (as Borat was put it). I have been extremely busy doing my tour. I have been to visit 2 more friends from Maui and also Amelia in NY which was a bit of an unexpected surprise. I think it is worth mentioning that Stef’s mother in particular has looked after me. I have sampled chocky cookies out of the oven, philly cheese cake, chilli like I have never tasted! Luckily I have been busy enough to walk it all off. Saturday avo - Sunday I spent experiencing the mean streets of Atlantic City. AC is New Jersey’s answer to Las Vegas. There is a seam of Casinos which run between the beach and the ghetto. So Lindsay and walked the boardwalk on ... read more

The great tradition of a BBQ with fiends and family. This past weekend we held our annual BBQ earlier than usual because I wanted my son to experience the fun and joy of a BBQ with special people. There is lots of food, drinks, and games for all, but the real fun and joy I wanted him to experience was different cultures that are part of our family. I remember as a child going to BBQ to families or friends, but never really being to one of diversed cultures. At our get togethers was of Spanish culture and going to friends get togethers were of their culture. Looking around this past weekend and having my some, I know for fact this was his first BBQ of being around a taotally different setting with many different culutres. ... read more

I have had my son now for almost a month and so many questions to answer. He is a year older and more comfortable in New Jersey than the past. The big difference is a young child trying to grasp the difference in cultures and wonder why isn't the same as in Puerto Rico. I'm being to thinking that his way of understanding is by asking question after question. Why is the beach closer and salty but not in Jayuaya, Puerto Rico it we only have lakes or rivers? Why do people work at night time and people are still awake and looking for something to eat.? (The 24 hour concept) How the food is different and I can not get what I like? Very interesting hearing my son ask all these questions and more, but ... read more

Memorial weekend at the Jersey Shore always seems to be interesting in our culture. Many Veterans observe this weekend by attending ceremonies, reflecting on the past and the importance of this day to America. Taking a break and having a quick conversation with a Veteran, who was particpating in a coin drop, explained to me; this weekend always makes him happy because seeing Americans have the freedom and ability to enjoy themselves along the shore or any where in our great country every year gives him a better understanding of why Veterans and current service members are so important. Our culture would not be what it is, if were not for the Veterans and our miltary as far as freedom and the opportunities we all have in America, this weekend sometimes is taken for granted by ... read more
