Geo: 44.0915, -71.7023This is the 11th day of our trip. We have travelled through Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, Ontario, Vermont, and New Hampshire, and driven about 1,460 miles. This morning, we left Burlington, VT and drove by Shelburne Farms. Shelburne Farms was the winter retreat of the Webb/Vanderbilts. It is also still a working dairy farm. From there, we made the 2-1/2 hour drive to White Mountain National Forest in New Hampshire. After a 5:30 storm blew through, the temperature dropped and we had steaks on the grill and wine at camp.....ok, I had a steak; Sheila had grilled vegetables..... read more

My roommate Judy is originally from NH. She made her way up to visit her parents and they all invited me along. I was not able to leave until the 7th due to work obligations but I made my way up there to Franconia. Surprisingly even though I was born and raised in Minnesota, I have NEVER been on skis. This would be my first attempt. Comical. Indeed comical. It was not as complicated as I thought, HOWEVER, I was probably on my tushy far more then I was on my skis but it was fun. At first I was trying to attempt the bunny slope without training. Judy was trying to help me but we were laughing so much that it was hard to get it together and GET UP. So I ended up paying ... read more

“The journey not the arrival matters.” - T. S. Eliot June 22 , 2010 Just a quick note to our family and friends, Internet connection has been hard to find, so we just wanted to “touch base” and give you the short version of our blog (long one to come). On May 26, we took a trip to Letchworth SP, NY, Buffalo, Niagara Falls. The RV needs some parts, we returned home and had the necessary repairs. Then left June 2, for Watkins Glen, NY and other sights in the Finger Lake Region, the Adirondacks, VT and NH. Bob has some interesting photos and we do have a narrative, when we get to wifi areas. In the meantime, hope you are well. Please keep in touch. ... read more

Thursday, June 18 (Boston KOA to Littleton/Lisbon KOA): We left the Boston/Cape Cod KOA about 9am, heading towards our next KOA in Littleton, New Hampshire, with stops along the way at Laconia and Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. We stopped in Laconia to visit my mother’s grave, then on to Wolfeboro to visit the town where I was born. I can’t say I was born and raised there, since I only lived there a couple weeks after I was born. Wolfeboro or Wolfeborough depending on where you look, is America’s oldest resort town. Although still quite small, it does have a certain charm, being on Lake Winnipesaukee and still comprised of mostly older buildings. We browsed the shops a bit, then decided to have lunch at the Wolfeboro Diner. I had one of my old favorites that my ... read more

Obfuscator writes: Since we were perfectly legally camping, we wasted no time in leaving our legitimate site in the morning. (Onaxthiel adds: Yup. I woke him up at dawn for stand-to, so we'd be ready for the French and Indian attacks.) Our gear got stashed in its traditional place in the backseat, and we headed back toward some of the places we had been unable to take in the night before, namely the Falls of Lana and Silver Lake. Silver Lake was only a .6 mile hike from the parking lot, so we figured, “Why not?” It turned out to be a rather pretty lake, if somewhat unimpressive. We did find a neat spillway, or something on one end of the Lake. Nearby, we saw a sign that said that the Falls of Lana were another ... read more

Okay, so if you look at a map, it's going to look silly that we skipped Boston. But, we're heading there after we do the final New England states so that we can see Jayme again after she went to Serbia for about 9 days. We only got to see her for a day in Connecticut before she left, and wanted to see her again, so that's the explanation. so, bypassing Boston and off to Maine! Nothing was really mapped out for us to see in Maine, so we drove through for a little bit, saw a lot of fresh seafood restaurants with pictures of lobster on them, and headed to New Hampshire. Our only stop here was just North of Woodstock at a little tourist trap called Clark's Trading Post. Clark's has been holding a ... read more

Unfortunately, as we headed north into the high altitudes of the White Mountains the weather turned dull. We were also disappointed to find that high winds had blown most of the leaves from the trees so the foliage views were not as good as further south. This did not stop us from enjoying our drive up the lake and taking a mountain walking trail through the forest for a couple of pleasant hours. We are staying this evening in Franconia at a very pleasant Inn with excellent food. ... read more
