Dear all,
When I last wrote we were headed to Seattle and we got there fine. We had two nights at an airport hotel. As it turned out we just crashed for two days. We slept loads, watched TV and did our laundry etc. We also found a Denny's where Ash had a very huge breakfast which made him very happy.
We could have caught the train into Seattle city but in the end it just didn't happen, after two weeks of touring Alaska I think we just needed to chill. So then we jumped on another plane and headed to Vegas. We arrived on Saturday evening and Vegas was busy! I think it's a very crazy city and it was a huge shock after being in the Alaskan Wilderness for so long!
We checked in and then explored a bit. I was in Vegas five years ago for my Sister Katy's Wedding so I knew what to expect but Ash was in for a shock. It blew his mind. It really is sensory overload.
Sunday we got up and walked down the strip a bit. We met up with Jon who used to live in Faversham
but is back in the States and was here for a music festival. After a beer with him we walked back and met little Brother Adam and Sophie. It was so good to see them, it seems like we have been saying "see you in Vegas" for months.
Little Sister Katy and husband James arrived and we met briefly with them before they went off to see a show. By midnight we were all ready for bed and I had won 50 dollars which was good!
Sunday we all met up and headed out to a big Vegas style lunch buffet! Ash was very pleased that part of the buffet was a huge stack of pancakes! We all ate a lot of food but compared to some of the Americans we only had a very light snack! With full bellies we got the bus to Freemont St which is the older original part of Vegas. It's much more fun than being on the strip and the casinos are small. When you are gambling in Vegas on slots or tables the drinks are free. So we had many many free drinEven
Whilst in a casino in Freemont St,
Hugh Hefner walked in with one of his blonde birds and his security. We all took photos from afar. James decided that this wasn't good enough so he walked right up to Hugh and got his photo taken with him!
Finally at about 3am we made our way to bed. Lots of free alcohol had been consumed! We met up for breakfast this morning but none of us are looking that great. Ash and I have said goodbye to everyone and are at the airport waiting to fly to San Francisco, Adam and Sophie will meet us there as they fly in a couple of hours. Katy and James have a few more days in Vegas before heading home.
Vegas has been a blast and its been great hanging with my family but a few days is enough for me. It's the total opposite of all the places on the trip that we have loved. We like quiet, rural and naturally beautiful. Vegas is busy, ugly, fake and full of annoying fake people.
San Francisco is going to be a really lovely way to end our trip. Hopefully a bit more calm and more time with Adam
and Sophie. We have less than a week now before we head home. We haven't really spoken about going home as I think we just want to enjoy our time in San Francisco. I guess we will cross that bridge when we come to it.
Love to you all,
Wend and Ash xxxxxx
