Well Vegas has hands down been my favourite place so far...
Words cannot even explain just how crazy this city is... imagine the most extravagant, over the top place in the world, then multiply it by a billlion and you might just get close to what Vegas is like.
From the minute I got off the plane, the craziness began - with the pokie machines in the boarding gates at the aiport! Yep thats right, you step off the plane and right there in front of you is an array of machines to tempt you. I cracked up laughing when I saw them, and got the camera out immediately, cos I just knew I had to share this craziness!!
The first thing that hits you is the heat - it is just SOOO hot there. The weekend that I was there it was 38 and 40 degrees - with that horrible hot northerly wind ALL DAY LONG!! When you fly into Vegas and you see that it really is a city in the middle of a desert, you realise that its going to probably be hot, but nothing prepares you for how hot it actually is. Its
no wander everyone hits the casinos, as its impossible to walk past the doors of the casinos with their beautiful air conditioning, without going in to cool down and get a drink.
Thats another thing thats funny - everyone is permanently drinking - EVERYWHERE. There are no rules in Vegas, everyone drinks in the street - you buy drinks from the casinos or the stalls along the strip, they give it to you in a glass, or what looks like a massive bucket, and you are good to go to keep cruusing up the strip - Its so weird! So different from what we are used to - with our no drinking or no open bottle rules back in Australia.
The casinos are just so over the top inside too - you could wander into every casino and always see something different and amazing and never be bored. Inside most of the casinos there are also shopping centres - but nothing can prepare you for the centres - they make our Chadstone look like nothing!! The shopping centres have painted ceilings so you think you are outside, their was a river with gondola rides in one, and a
fashion show stage that appeared from the floor before your eyes in another - It is just so crazy!!
I wandered the strip both day and night, with my camera permanently in my hand. I think I took about 200 photos in just 2 days - there is just so much to see you dont want to miss a thing. The length of the strip is about 4kms and I think I walked it about 5 times - you would lose SOO much weight if you lived there - if you didnt sweat it out you would walk it out.
Another funny thing that happened was at the hotel when I first checked in - amazing how much of a small world it really is. The girl who checked me at the hotel had a suspicioulsy familar accent, and when we got talking we found out she lives in Ringwood and used to go to Box Hill Tafe. She was so nice and we compared stories on the places we had been, and both agreed it was nice to see someone from our neck of the woods. She also made my day with a surprise delivery to my
room - yummy cheese platter and wine to say welcome - so nice. Am looking forward to catching up with Kellie again when she gets home - just freaked me out on how much of a small world it really is.
On the last day I walked up to the Statopshere, a 350m high tower at the end of the strip with 360 degree views of the entire Las Vegas area. It was quite scary to be looking down from so high up, but it was amazing to see the strip and how close it is to the mountains of the desert - definately explains why its so damn hot!! Took some pictures and sat there for a while - just such a cool city from up there and from the strip itself.
After the weekend in Vegas, my feet were very sore from the 20 kms walking back and forth up the strip, but it was all worth it, as Vegas has definately been the most fun destination to date. Would definately go back again - so much fun!! Hope you like the pictures.. xx
