Did not wake up to blue sky and sunshine this morning because we were up before the sun! (But it was blue sky and sunshine later!)
Apparently if you have a flight out of Toronto Pearson International Airport before 10am, you need to be there 3 hours beforehand. Our flight was 8am (it changed from 10am) so needed to be there at 5am. Decided to live dangerously and get the 5am shuttle from the hotel which would get us to the airport at 5.10am. Took us a whole 25 minutes to check in and go through security, immigration and customs. So glad we set that alarm for 4.15am!
A 4 1/2 hour flight to Las Vegas, and a 3 hour time difference meant we landed in Las Vegas about 9.30am (Vegas time). They have poker machines at the airport! Went to the Paris Hotel, walked through the casino to get to the hotel reception, could not get into our room (of course), but left our bags and decided to look around the strip a little. So hot outside, very dry heat, but you are only in it for 5-10 mins, in between hotels/casinos.
Walked around our hotel first. Absolutely amazing.
Apart from the 1/2 sized Eiffel Tower and a 2/3 sized Arc de Triomphe outside, the inside is decorated to look like you are wandering the streets of Paris at dusk, complete with cafes, shops, a bridge and the sky. Then had to walk through the huge gaming area to get back outside into the heat and headed north along the strip.
Came across the Flamingo first, so went in to see the flamingos (going through the gaming area). Then across the road to Caesars Palace, built to look like ancient Rome. Then across a side street to the Bellagio, which is across the strip from our hotel. Crossing the road here usually means going up onto an overpass, they are on most corners, and some even have escalators to get you up and down.
The inside of the Bellagio was unbelievable. The lobby has a glass flower sculpture on the ceiling, by Chihuly, that has 2,000 flowers. And they have a garden display with beautiful floral sculptures in a conservatory just behind that is changed each season and uses more than 10,000 flowers.
Then back to the hotel for lunch, had a very nice crepe at Le Creperie (on
a Paris street) and then we could get into our room. Unfortunately it's at the end of another very long corridor, but we can see the Eiffel Tower and the Bellagio fountains out the window, and it's air conditioned! So all good. Rest time!
Did go back out later (after we checked we had a fridge in the room) to the chemist/supermarket/bottle shop next to the hotel to get breakfast as we had an early start tomorrow. And back via the Shiver bar we had found earlier for a frozen cocktail!
Ventured back down to the Paris streets for dinner (Chinese!), then, being the party animals we are, and in Vegas, we were in bed by 9pm. It was a long day!
