The month and a half of studing and preperation reached it's climax the week of January 8th, when I sat for my Master's Exams on Monday and Wednesday. These Master's Exams are a series of tests each with four questions and with a sitting time of 2 hours, they can ask anything within the Mathematical subjects of: Analysis (the study of "smooth" functions and their properties) Abstract Algebra (the study of 'sets' -a list of objects, and an operation(s) associated with them -i.e. addition and multiplication) Linear Algebra (the study of a Vector Spaces and operations on them -this is the matrix stuff, not the movie but the little boxes with numbers in them) Topology (the study of set and a property that sets can have being "open", "closed", "both" or "neither") A friend of mine ... read more

Monday November 20, 2006 was a very good day for us. We closed on our house!!! We had a long, exhausting weekend prior to that celebratory day but it was all worth it! I took half of Thursday and all of Friday prior to closing off work to work on the house. We worked until after dark on Thursday and were up and at it early on Friday but we didn't get it done by the time that the appraiser showed up. However, he saw how hard we were working and so he made us a deal. He took all his measurements and notes and said he would come back Monday morning early and take the pictures he needed to finish the appraisal. But it came with a few stipulations - things we didn't know we ... read more

We haven’t had internet access for a few days so bit of a delayed entry with what we’ve been up to. On Sunday 19th we set off from Medicine Hat in Canada at 0500 in the morning and at a nice temperature of about -5 degrees. Bearing in mind we’d only go to Canada a few hours before we were quite sleepy to start. We made it down to the US border in a couple of hours and eventually entered Montana. Well if we thought it was cold in Med Hat, it was nothing compared to Montana. On the border it was windy and hitting probably about -15 degrees. We then stopped at what appeared to be a ghost town called Conrad. There was literally no one about - all the shops were closed, did not ... read more

It was an early start from Denver. We were on the road at 7:15am with a thousand km’s of driving stretching ahead of us that day. And drive we did out of Colorado into Wyoming. Well I drove the whole 950km’s to Billings. It took us 11 hours to get there and over two tanks of gas. We were pushing the old corolla hard and trying to keep at 75mph (120 km/h) considering the route was a straight flat twin lane highway. Due to pushing the car hard with two bikes creating drag, we also encountered 100km/h winds as we drove back along the prairie flats. I’d never driven in anything this windy in my life. I could only maintain 100 km/h while gripping the wheel to keep the car from being buffeted off the road. ... read more

October 3 - 20, 2006 Milwaukee, Wis. - Little Bighorn Battlefield, Mont. 22,384 miles to date 2,241 miles this leg NOTE ABOUT NEW PHOTO FORMAT: You may have noticed that the photo format has recently changed on this (free) blogging service. If we post more than 30 photos per entry (highly likely), then the majority of the photos appear as tiny thumbnails at the bottom of the entry. But the captions and titles are still there (fear not!), and here are two easy ways to view them in the new format: 1) Click on the first thumbnail and then scroll through the photos in order using the forward and back arrows, like a slideshow. The images show up big and the captions and titles appear alongside. 2) At the end of the blog text, and just ... read more

Well following on from the last blog, we were happy trecking though the rockies crashing bikes and generally getting cold and hurt. The main plan of the travels was to pick up 3 more back packers to use them for their gas money and travel Canada. So off we head to backpacker central, BANFF. Well in true wenzel style we turn up in october, the slowest month for backpackers. Its not hot, or cold so it just rains and there was no hope of picking up backpackers!!! Still really nice ski village though with amazing mountains. I am deffinately glad i have a ski pass there for the winter and am spending Christmas there so cant wait. Time to rethink however!!! Canadian gas was working out a little on the expensive side so we decided to ... read more

Like the title says both Montana winter and the bankers are looming over our home project now!!! Winter will wait for no one and the bankers are getting pretty antsy aslo. Not to mention the ants that are crawling up both of our pants! Currently our biggest project is getting the siding on. The metal (1st 4 feet of siding) is primarily all on the house. We have a little bit to put on where the front porch will eventually be, but that will come right at the end. We have been staining siding, fir siding, 12" wide boards as of late. We're about halfway done with staining the boards. Once they are done we will hang them all - they are screwed in with at least 11 screws in each board. We have one side ... read more

Hello people, it has been a while, but with classes back in session and crazy schedules I find less time for this. I have new videos but have not edited them yet. I got all I need now, except for the time. I promise I will put them soon. Regarding this trip, I am on my way to Fresno, California. It was the first time I went thru I-15 southbound from Montana. I was expecting it to be a bit more mountain-range kind of driving, but was surprisingly more "valley" than the west of Montana's I-90. I guess, now, to I-80 and the in-famous "Donna's Pass". Last time I went thru that pass was about 4 years ago, so I'll see how I feel this time. I am fully loaded, so I have to crawl to ... read more

. Brrr… it was chilly this morning - probably not because it was any colder than it has been the past couple of days, only that we were up a lot earlier!! It is a good thing that we are staying one more night or we really would have had to get up early! Today our objective was to fill in some of the blanks that we had missed in earlier days… Statistics Starting Destination: West Yellowstone, Montana Ending Destination: West Yellowstone, Montana Ending Destination GPS: N: 44° 39.348’ W: 111° 06.390’ Elev: 6704’ Miles Driven: 135.6 Miles Biked: 14.4 Most Interesting Geyser Watching Attire: Insulated Carhart pants, hooded sweatshirt and Teva’s without sox! WARNING: Not too many Pictures in this blog! This is indeed a treat—not having to pack the truck in the morning and spending more than one night in the same place! This meant that theoretically we could get up and get going earlier… Hmm, Sometimes sleeping in does feel really good! P.s. The photo left is proof for Maria’s Dad - he commented that he thought we were holed up in some resort somewhere surfing the internet for cool pictures. We wish our muscles felt that way!
