Hello everyone! This is the first entry of this blogging thing Cass and I want to do to keep in touch with everyone. I'm sure all of you know that we are heading to South Korea to teach English. We both are playing a little waiting game right now to hear from the Korean government about visa issuance numbers. We are heading there through a program called Reach To Teach that has been super healpful with each of our million and one questions. At this stage of the process, RTT has found both of us jobs in the Gyeonggi Province in a town named Yeoju. We are finding more and more about the area and country everyday. Everything we hear, either from books of friends or internet or whatever, the more excited we are and anxious ... read more

Super 8 came out on top again with two queen beds we both had a grand sleep and although late to bed awoke refreshed ready for their Super Start breakfast.I am getting sold on waffles and syrup and might have to buy a machine when we get home...but then I might get to be as big as ........Gretchen won't touch them as she reckons it will ruin all her fitness work !!! Weather was overcast and about 50F or 10C and like being back home in the morning. So we both dressed for the weather and set off with West Yellowstone in our sights for the end of the days travel. The first hour of travel all seemed to be downhill as the car functioned at 2000 revs at 70mph when at other times the revs would ... read more

Yesterday, we ended up not leaving until late in the day. After purchasing one extension for the trailer hitch, Richard discovered that we needed yet another extension. Arghhhh! Off to Burnaby Hitch for the needed part while Kayla packed the truck. We can't believe everything fit, including way too many clothes. When we finally hit the road, it was about 4:00 pm, but we drove on into the evening and stayed the night at Stemwinder Provincial Park near Hedley, right on the Similkameen River. What a sound to fall asleep to! Today we started off early by Kayla's standards - a very civilized 9:00 am. Drove through Osoyoos, dumped all the fruit and veg only to find out we could have taken everything with us. South of the border there wasn't a fruit stand or market ... read more

Well, we used our inginuity to download photos to the web. Greg's inginuity, really, since my work laptop doesn't have the right drivers for my camera (or enough disk space). So Greg wrote up the travel journal and we should be able to post it for friends and family. We drove out of Calgary, AB this morning. Said goodbye to the rockies and hello to big sky / farm country. You wouldn't believe the farmland out here - it stretches for miles. Near Ft. Macleod we saw a large wind farm in the distance and 1 tower up close. They are very large and impressive. The clouds are huge, white and fluffy on the drive... Just like an idillic scene from a western in Kansas w/ the farmhouses, the land and the clouds. We're approaching the ... read more

Afetr the worst nights sleep on this trip we got ready for the day with a "homemade"breakfast from the supplies we were carrying and readied to leave the Whisling Swan motel.Well we were late off the road and we thought any port in a storm is better than sleeping in the car or motoring miles more to try and find a motel. We headed off with Helena the states capital in our mind.First was Browning the heart of the Blackfeet Indian Reservation. What a desolate place but the locals seemed to be making th best they could. We called intot the Indian Trading Post for a look around but things were prety expensive so decided to push on.The country was pretty barren with few animals and little in the way of farms or people. We ontinued south on MT ... read more

Morning dawned cloudy but with promise of improvement and so it did.Another great breakfast at our motel with biscuits and gravy..mmnnn...not,for those who wanted them.We nicked a few butter packs as they are handy on the road at lunchtime and you can't buy them at WalMart. We headed up MT-93 towards our intended destination of Kalispell with 112 miles to go it was going to be an easy day. Within a couple of miles of the motel and with the road ever climbing in a straight line a sign came up on the roadside that the chain fitting area was ahead. One can only imagine what the weather and temps in Missoula are like in mid winter...not for us !!!! Then it was down the other side and a short distance to the turnoff to the National ... read more

A great nights sleep at EconoInn and we were ready for breakfast and a day of scenery that would hopefully be the highlight of this part of the road trip.At breakfast we chatted with a couple from Iowa who were also on a road trip but to Portland.Don't think they really knew where NZ was but never mind we told them how beautiful the country was.In the car park as I was packing the car a Vietnam vet asked me how the car was going and a 15min chat ensued about Kiwis he had served with in 'Nam.Interesting guy who said he was affected by Agent Orange and couldnt get a job. We headed off towards Whitefish a ski resort north of Kalispell and took in the "town beach"lifeguard tower and all.Strange for a beach so ... read more

The day dawned with a little more cloud than we have seen to date but still plenty of sun around too.Made our own breakfast in the downstairs kitchen and prepared for the day ahead. We planned to get into Montana, the Big Sky country and that meant a 200 mile drive. We continued our way on ID-93 and shortly after leaving Challis came across a wagon and horses being driven by a guy who liked an old time prospector. We then travelled into another gorge with the Salmon River on one side and towering cliffs all around so a photo was in order. As we came to a stop and I went to turn the motor off the audible alarm of the horn repeating came on.We were puzzled and tried all sorts of buttons and switches on the dashboard ... read more

Woke up to rain. Decided to pick up some groceries. Things are cheaper here than at home. Beauty supplies like shampoo and face creams at Wal-Mart are half of what we pay at home. I stock up! We are passing through another little town in Montana called Joliet. Whoa! Stop! Go back! Charles Ringer Studio and Gallery has metal sculptures like I've never seen before. Gas pump hobos with their wine bottle, warming their hand at the burning barrel. How funny is that! Going through the Beartooth pass, we get as high as 12,000 feet. Lots of switchbacks up the mountain, and narrow roads. At the peak, we see the pointy peak off in the distance that the pass is named for. Once we get through the pass and check into our motel, we have enough ... read more

Ok so the day is here and I figured I'd send out one last little blog before I hit the open road. Nothing like a nice ride across country, taking in the scenery as I sit back and relax...NOT!! On a Greyhound bus!? haha The bus will likely be a long, uncomfortable, restless overnight travel; the advantage? :save a little money by flying directly from an international airport and because it's overnight I won't need to pay for a hotel room!) No problem with that, I'm going to have to get use to that whole public transportation thing anyway. Oh how I love it! As the clock tick tocks its way down the excitement grows, and the question repeats in my mind... Am I truly ready for this? The answer: UMMMMMM???? UMMMMM?? haha From that many ... read more
