Maybe it's not the destination that matters. Maybe it's the journey. Mapquest said that this would take 7 hours. But we found lots of things to see and side trips to take, so it took 12 hours. Driving through Fortuna, SD, we came across an abandoned military radar tracking station. Steve remembers going there in about 1963, while he was in the air force. It was part of the high line, which is/was the most northern radar tracking in the US. Wheat fields in Saskatchewan, changed into scrub and ranch land in South Dakota, which turned into corn fields in Montana as far as we could see. And hot! 95 degrees F! We saw a rock formation that looked like tables growing out the the side of the hill. And hay bales stacked up to look ... read more

Going-to-the-Sun Scenic Road The most famous highlight of Glacier National Park is the Going-to-the-Sun Road. The scenic drive is considered one of the most spectacular in America. I suggest that this is a don't-look-down kind of drive. Just pull off when you do, and you'll be fine, well maybe I still have trouble looking down. There are plenty of reasons to stop and park such as wildflower meadows, alpine vistas, and abundant wildlife. Going-to-the-Sun Road splits the northern and southern halves of Glacier National Park in two and crosses the Continental Divide at Logan Pass (6,646 feet). It climbs over the Continental Divide at Logan Pass. The most stunning section is the sheer western face of the divide below the pass. Many beautiful waterfalls can be seen in this area as well as wonderful alpine views. ... read more

So here it goes.....the beginning of a new adventure is about to start, and I'm stoked! I have 11 days before departure, and no clue where to start. I've been prepping things for the last couple weeks, and tying up all those loose ends I don't want to worry about while I'm abroad. You know, that useless car payment I'll be making for my car to sit unused for a year or longer, insurance for the useless car, loosing the cell phone leash of attachment to society, vaccinations, and just getting my stuff in order so I'm prepared. (oh and putting my hair in dreads of course, very important to keep things simple to maintain, minimal efforts for such things=more time to explore, less stress, and more room in the pack!) I recently discovered that I ... read more

So i talked about Las Vegas in my last blog...now its time to tell u the story of the tour of the Grand Canyon. It started at like 6am. The guide was called Chris and he picked us up from our hotel along with another family and a Chinese student. The family were quite a young family...well the kids anyways. They were from London and spoke in a real typical posh London accent which amused me and they were so polite. Bob and Helen were the parents and the kids were Jordan, Luke and Imogen. Their ages ranged from 6-12 and they were really cute and so nice to each other...i don't think i heard them bicker once...not like me and my sisters were fought a bit and we're a lot older than them! The Chinese ... read more

Ja und ... read more

Wow, it has been so long since I have written. So I am back in Alaska -- yay! -- and have been for a little over a week. Things started out a little rocky as it was a little hard adjusting to a settle environment after living like a nomad all summer. But I think things are going to start improving. I didn't get to write about one experience I had in (or rather near) Idaho so I wanted to add the Montana State Dive Fest to my blog. Four simple words describe the Montana State Dive Fest: it...was...sooooooo...fun...Not only were the people from Helena Scuba just amazing, but it was nice to get in the water and play around like a fish some more. I also acquired a little dive camera to play with (thanks, ... read more

We spent the day in Glacier National Park on the Canadian border of Montana today. I have been to Banff and Jasper park and Glacier is right up there with some of the most spectacular views of glacial lakes, streams, waterfalls and of course rocking peaks. We drove up the Going to the Sun road and had another beautiful day for wandering around the parks. There was no signs of any bears or moose, but the first few hikes were pretty nice without too many people around. We did run into a 30 minute wait at Logan Pass, so we were not able to hike the 10 mile garden wall trail which sends hikers across a narrow rocky path some 20 feet above the road and down through the continental divide. I was able to upload ... read more

out in the open, scenic, relaxed, warm and friendly...this is a different america to the big cities... no need for rushing, this is rural america and there is always time to eat a hearty breakfast high in cholesteral - biscuits with gravy, eggs over easy a side of toast and a bottomless cup of coffee before considering the rest of the day. time is spent up in norse in the hot springs, camping by the river, rafting, campfires, yellowstone park, old saloon bars and some heavy nights on main street, bozeman thanks cody to your and friends for being so hospitable now back to nyc overnight and then onto mexico city... read more

We awoke early once again but instead of looking forward to doing something active in the beautiful ranges around Bozeman, today we were to start our journey back to London. The last leg of our round the world tour. Sarah and Joe had another guest arrive in the middle of the night. Tim was relocating his family interstate and letting them fly ahead so he could relocate the car and dog. It was nice to finally meet the man responsible for Sarah and Joes Nepal trekking holiday video. Salt Lake city was a days drive away but the price of internal flights meant we had opted for the drive so we headed out to the airport to pick up our budget rent-a-dent. As Leanne waited in Sarah and Jos truck, Matt raced in to get the ... read more
