This is the 8TH part of a series about the ride I took on my 2005 883 Low Harley Sportster ‘Effie’ from Kansas City to Novia Scotia and back. This was part of my vacation from 4 to 20 AUG 2006 Friday 11AUG06 I left the hotel about 8:30 Friday morning. As I was leaving the other bike comes riding up, he had already been out to the laundry mat and done the laundry. The couple was from VA and just coming back from ME. The ride to the rally was uneventful and contained a stop at the RI line. I arrived at the MA/RI Hog rally about 1:30pm. The ABC banner was posted right outside the door and I got my picture taken right off. After registering for the rally, I checked into the hotel. ... read more

It was only a few hours from our campground in Cape Cod to Boston. After a lovely drive up, we took advantage of the free afternoon and got caught up with some e-mails and blog writing…and we might have laid on the bed and watched a couple movies too. The next morning was gray and rainy so we took our time getting ready. Finally the rain cleared and we got the "T" (metro) into downtown Boston. We got off at Boston Common and started the Freedom Trail from there. This is a historic walking trail that winds through Boston and takes you past significant churches, schools and other buildings like the home of Paul Revere. They have even painted a handy red line down the sidewalks so you don’t lose your way from the trail, clever! ... read more

Firstly, just a quick note to say thanks for all the lovely comments and messages that we have received so far; we feel very loved and all warm and fuzzy inside:) We have really enjoyed reading these little ‘messages from home’ and hopefully most of you are enjoying reading our blogs. We will try to keep them coming throughout the rest of our trip so stay tuned for more! Ok, 4 nights of camping under our belt, bring on another campground! We left from Rhode Island and took the beautiful drive on to Cape Cod, a long narrow peninsula that curls off the coast of Massachusetts into the Atlantic Ocean. Once we crossed the bridge onto the Cape, we left the highway for Scenic Route 6A. This was such a beautiful stretch of road and paradise ... read more

OK so I'm heading up to Boston on Thurs August 3 2006. The main reason for the trip is to see my son who's birthday is on August 3, he'll be 20! However, while I am there I plan on doing some major damage shopping. No, I'm not talking about clothes or shoes or any of that silliness! I'm talking about MAKEUP! Yep, you got it, I'm a very shallow person. I know this and accept it and so should you. I basically have a plan on where I will be shopping and where I will be "window shopping" Of course Newbury Street is at the top of my list. So many fantastic stores, so little time. I'll be taking my sister Cathy with me (she lives there) I'm not 100% but I don't think she ... read more

It is strange to say but this will most likely be my last entry from Boston. The year has come to a close and I am ready to move on. In all, it has been around a 9-month waiting process since I applied to the JET Program back in November. However, it was well worth the wait and my excitement to return to Japan hasn’t wavered since the first day I filled in the application. In a matter of 8 days I will be heading off to Japan, and after a week of speeches and training in Tokyo, I will be making my way to my new home, a small island of 120 people in the Japanese Inland Sea. My bag is packed, or bags I am ashamed to say, and now I am busy wandering ... read more

First of all, let me deeply apologize to everyone for my *horrendous* spelling and typing mistakes in all my blogs. My mom was so sweet and downloaded all my entries to print out and asked if I wanted to make any changes first, so I did a spellcheck and discovered am embarrassing number of horrible mistakes... sorry!! About half the mistakes were just typos, since I never wanted to spend the extra time/money to recheck my blogs, and half I'm sorry to say were due to my lack of spelling skills... Only "N" I ever got in elementary school was in second/first grade in spelling, and it still plagues me today! I blame spellcheck technology for my continued deficiency. ;P Thanks for putting up with it everyone, though. I've gone through and fixed the entries and ... read more

I last left you guys with me arriving in Boston after a rather gruelling 32 hours of flight. Spent the rest of the week working pretty much all day and all night, although the work was punctuated with lots of food and fun as well!! Still - was missing my girl, and getting far too many late nights, and it was all a bit too much - so when the weekend came up, I turned down all the kind offers for entertainment and opted to go check out Boston on my own!! So let me tell you a bit about Boston. It's renowned for being a gorgeous city to visit; on account of its great architecture and history. Since its founding, Boston quickly became an intellectual and education centre, with the arrival of noted theologians and ... read more

Hoping to set this all up and get it running before I go- Welcome to my travelblog! I'm not much of a writer, but I sure like to go and look and will certainly try to tell you what it is I am seeing. Here's the lowdown. I am leaving 1 WEEK FROM MONDAY on the longest and arguably the coolest trip I have made. Starting in Boston, flying to London, ending in the rainy rainy monsoon season of Northern India. Namely, and for about a month, the Rajasthan route- Dehli, Agra, Pushkar, Udaipur, Jodhpur. Shortly thereafter, we're headed through Himachal Pradesh to the mountain towns of Dharamsala and McLeod Ganj in the lovely (at least I've heard they're lovely) Himalayas to spend a couple of months teaching English and hanging out. At least this is ... read more

Right! Time to write. It's always hard to get the first words out, however as you all know, once I get started it's hard to stop me!! I left Sydney on the 26th of July. Had an emotional farewell with my girl Sunday morning 7am at the airport. It was really sad to say bye - we were going to be apart for a whole 3 weeks, which is the longest we've ever been separated. So even though I was excited to be leaving on another expedition (yay!), I was also sad to be saying bye to my gorgeous wife (boo!). Now I know some of you out there have spent far longer away from your loved ones than us, and so you're probably thinking that we're just a bunch of sentimental wimps. You're probably right ... read more

Ok, thank you to Cait for recommending this site. I think it will be a great way to keep our friends and families updated on our adventures! I leave on Tuesday and have begun the complicated task of fitting 20 pairs of shoes into an internal frame backpack. It just isn’t going to happen--I think 19 will have to do. My travels first take me to Hong Kong, where I'll spend some time in the office and overcoming my jetlag. I fly to Beijing on the 29th and will travel through China until August 11. We hit all of the major cities, Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and the most important cultural sites. Then it is back to Hong Kong where I meet Evan on Aug 12. We'll spend a few days working/touring and then we ... read more
